Mandatory Arabic Classes Coming To Mansfield

MANSFIELD (CBSDFW.COM) – Some Students at Mansfield ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language. The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant.

The Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant was awarded to Mansfield ISD last summer by the U.S. Department of Education.

As part of the five-year $1.3 Million grant, Arabic classes would be mandatory at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Kenneth Davis Elementary School. The program would also be optional for students at T. A. Howard Middle School and Summit High School.

Language of the future?

Well it sure isn’t French. I studied that all the way through high school before coming to realize that nobody WANTS to talk to those people.

Actually it would not be a bad thing if more of us were able to translate Islamist propaganda in real-time.

“We cannot change hearts and minds if we don’t speak “their” language. This seems like a good thing, educating tomorrow’s missionaries today, preparing them to communicate the gospel to the Muslim world.”

The problem is that the program intends to incorporate Arabic language and CULTURE into EVERY SUBJECT (read entries above). The teaching of that culture won’t be presented or analyzed from an American, Christian viewpoint, I can guarantee you; the material will come from Islamists intend on propaganizing the next generation into thinking that Islam is “only a religion of peace”. This is sheer propaganda from the enemies of America seeking to capture the young people of our country. I’d encourage you to look at the history of what Hitler did with the younger generation of Germany through the Hitler’s Youth program.

Seems strange to push this in Texas. That’ll be the Mexican zone of influence in the post-America age. Arabic might come in handy in what is now the Midwest, however.

I enough parents want an Arabic immersion education for their kids, let them start a charter. In my county, we now have a Hebrew immersion charter school.

How many of these students can read and write English correctly?

Parents shouldn’t let their kids become guinea pigs for any sort of crazy idea the local public school dreams up. Most parents don’t want a “madras” education for their children.

Complete waste of money, and it will be an epic failure if parents and students are not on board, and reading the comments under the article, I don’t think people are too happy with this.

“I really don’t have a problem with schools teaching languages that will be more useful than, say, French.”

Yeah, but the problem with this program is that it is MANDATORY that Arabic be taught. I have no issue at all with having a foreign language class mandatory, but the student should have a choice as to which language he or she elects to learn.

One of Rand Paul’s budget cutting ideas is to eliminated the Dept. of Education, from which this stinking idea springs through bribing broke school districts with federal grants.

Everyone ought to contact their Congressman and tell him you are in favor of Congressman Paul’s $500 billion budget reduction. It would do wonders for restoring local control of our children’s education.

On a National Security basis we do need more somewhat fluent in Arabic language. It’s even a marketable skill to have for those wanting to work in FEDGOV, because of that national defense need.

I really don’t have a problem with schools teaching languages that will be more useful than, say, French.

I agree. But requiring Arabic language AND cultural studies is out of line. Offering it is fine - not requiring it.

People use to intentionally buy a little north to being Arlington ISD . . . guess Mansfield just renewed this effort by potential home buyers.

Given the ethnicity of many in Texas and other border states schools they ought to be getting grants that mandates teaching English as a FIRST language and US history.

I do this hacks in schools will do anything for money. can they legally force a language? My son wanted to do a language here in California everyone said he had to do spanish but he did not want to.

His second choice was sign language but that is only two years of credit and colleges require four so that was out. he took latin.

BTW his first choice was French but that is not offered at his school.
