I still get angry when I think of the congressional hearings on toyota - absolutely pathetic. An opportunity for a bunch of self-righteous publicity seekers to see a platform. The same as H1N1, BP, etc. etc.

It served its purpose. They knew it all along, but needed the negative PR for Toyota.

Not flawed cars, flawed drivers.

It seems to me that there have to be grounds for a lawsuit somewhere in there. This was government malfeasance at its worst.

Well if the government says so then it has to be 100% True. (/s)

Funny how ~before~ the news reports there were only something like 8 reports of such acceleration. Then after it hit the news there were suddenly thousands of reports.

Imagine that.

The other thing that went unreported is that in pretty much any car, even with the accelerator pedal floored, the brakes are able to overcome the torque of the engine and stop the car.

And this just in...

WASHINGTON — A government investigation into Egypt has found no reason to suspect terrorist factions that want to control the Middle East.

Right. Like I’m going to believe ANY government investigation....

The exact same thing happened with Audis in the 1980s - an “unintended acceleration” scare, and a careful investigation finding all the incidents were people stepping on the gas instead of the brake.

PJ O’Rourke covers the Audi story in “Parliament of Whores” IIRC.

When they say- None at all then you know their is a cover up. I read first hand reports about this problem before it even became public. To say none of the faults are electronic is a lie. I will never buy a car that cannot be shut down except at the whim of a crashed computer. No manual control equals no sale to me.
