Our Don Quixote Energy Policy

Power: Tilting once again at windmills, the Interior Department has announced that it's fast-tracking wind farms off four Atlantic states. Now, if they were oil rigs, we might actually get some real energy.

While vast reserves of oil and natural gas lie undeveloped off both coasts and in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, barred from development by federal edict for the next seven years, the obsessive pursuit of green energy continued on Monday.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, architects of the economy-killing administration war on fossil fuels, said the Obama administration would speed the development of offshore wind farms, with a goal of issuing leases off four Atlantic Coast states by year-end.

Edict is the right word. The USA is no better than Egypt under Mubarack when it comes to Leninist dictator Obama’s edicts about energy.

Actually, Egypt is WAY AHEAD on energy. Most people aren’t aware that Herrr Obama supposedly lifted his so-called MORATORIUM, but his people STILL ISSUE ZERO offshore drilling permits! Offshore drilling is now ILLEGAL in the USA!

I just had a mental picture of obama sounding out “Quixote” slowly and pronouncing it the way it’s spelled...like he does with “corpsmen”.

Monstrous visual blight when they are built. The enviros went absolutely nuts when the views of the Pacific in California were “ruined” because of the oil rigs off shore. But in this case, only Teddy Kennedy complained.

Just wait until these things are all rusting hulks in 5 or 10 years and no amount of maintenance will keep them turning. Can’t you just hear the blades grinding and squeaking to a slow halt in all that salt air? Talk about a totally inhospitable environment to produce energy.

". . . fast-tracking wind farms off four Atlantic states. . ."

Fast tracking green socialist whacko agenda, but putting the kibosh on seven year license application finally approved for a coal mine.

Tilting once again at windmills

Think I've used that exact phrase referring to our current power supply a time or two.

the Interior Department has announced that it's fast-tracking wind farms off four Atlantic states...I guess so - when gas gets to four dollars a gallon in the next year and the vast sluggish public finally wakes up to the fact that it's our own government and their environmental- dilettante henchmen who have virtually destroyed our economy by preventing us from developing our own effective energy sources, Obama and his cronies will be on their way out, and the whole green dream will be buried under drill baby drill - time's running out......

No Worries! The ChiComs will bring in large ships with slant oil drills and just pump out all the oil from international waters. The green creepozoids will whine and the UN will issue its usual denunciations, and the ChiComs will continue to drill baby drill.

Yes, and they kill birds, too. Where are the animal rights nuts when you need them?

There have been many offshore wind turbines installed for decades now in the North Sea, not a very hospitable environment for anything. And just like offshore oil rigs, they are built to last.

Maybe the ones in the North Sea were built to last, but I'd bet big money these "Green Jobs" windmills will be as cheap as they can make them.

I give them 10 years at the most. They will be expensive to maintain per MW, especially after they start requiring major maintenance once the "new car smell" is gone...
