Gays and the GOP: Palin and Pawlenty Explore the Hornet's Nest
Atlantic ^ | 2/8/11 | Elspeth Reeve

Sarah Palin did not say she supports gay marriage. She hasn't celebrated the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. But she also did not say that a gay Republican group should be banned from participating in a big Republican conference, and for that, social conservatives are begging her to "clarify."

Controversy has been brewing for months over GOProud, a gay conservative group, and its participation in CPAC, one of the biggest Republican events of the year--a must-do for most aspiring presidential hopefuls. Many social conservative groups are boycotting the conference because GOProud was allowed to participate. But Palin said she thought GOProud belonged at the table, telling the Christian Broadcasting Network, "Should conservatives not reach out to others, not participate in events or forums that perhaps arising within those forums are issues that maybe we don’t personally agree with? And I say no." Palin then likened letting a gay group in the conference to sitting on a panel with "a bunch of the liberal folks."

No worries. They figured out that angle the minute it became news. What impresses me is that TPaw is the only one so far I’m aware of that wants to re-institute DADT and overturn the “queers in the military” Obama wet dream

I think you will get some argument from other Palin fans on that.

Interesting that Pawlenty has so strongly come out (no pun intended) against the repeal of DADT.

Homosexuality is clearly a sin for any believer. Sin is a choice. Yes, there are those genetically caught between. Some eunuchs are made by God, some by man.

I can’t compromise on what the Bible says- that is my religion. I can compromise on politics- it’s of this earth and not strictly of God. As much as is possible, I am encouraged to live at peace with all men.

If they wish to vote with us, they can. If they wish for me to endorse their lifestyle, I cannot.

A Free Republic by definition implies a certain tolerance. The Founders included Deists, and others. Mormons are a conservative block that I disagree with on a religious level, but I welcome their support against the destructive tide we are facing.

I compromise politically, but not on doctrine religiously.

I believe you are correct. That would, btw, be totally in keeping with her Alaskan upbringing, as that is one of the more libertarian and least religious of our states.

I imagine (and this is just a guess on my part) that she’d want this issue would be resolved by Federalism, rather than a big government, D.C. dictated result.

Just my two cents...

If he rejects his previous global warming BS, then I’ll think about giving him a serious look.

They can all vote conservative. Fine by me. But I will oppose their agenda vigorously. The Log Cabiners only pretended to be conservatives. This new group, I’ll bet is in the same stealth mode.

By that reasoning, if a group called “GOPooch” agrees with conservative issues 95%, but argues for decriminalization of bestiality ...sigh

There’s a muslim tolerance group (Muslims for America, or some such) presenting a block at CPAC this week.

I extend the same to them....

Don’t expect us to bend too far.

Wonder what GOP Proud thinks the “age of consent” should be? I know these bastards were helping Obama every step of the way in supporting the repeal of DADT.

My comment was in reference to Palin’s statement (and others who welcome GOProud to CPAC). Not at your statement.

Look who wrote the article? The Atlantic, yes they are so concerned with GOP alignment issues. Sometimes people like Pissant and others drive me insane because they have A.D.O.S

Attention Deficit OHHH Shiny! Dangle crap in front of your face and you chase it right off the cliff.

I’d truly like to see a muslim group become legit defenders of America. I know a couple Iranian expats who are. But they need to start tearing after the apologists and sharia-freaks before I’m going to give this new group the time of day.

Is this thread a Bad Joke?

TPaw? Puhleeze!
Greenest Boogie Monster ever posing as GOP.

Mittskie signed the Gay law in MA.

Huckster got McQueeg the nomination by default.

If Sarah never came on board McQueeg would have been chasing the missing Strawberries and looking for his 1000K vote.

Get off of the cocktail party cucumber sandwiches and Chardonnay on Demand.

Forget the GOP.
