Gays and the GOP: Palin and Pawlenty Explore the Hornet's Nest
Atlantic ^ | 2/8/11 | Elspeth Reeve

Sarah Palin did not say she supports gay marriage. She hasn't celebrated the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. But she also did not say that a gay Republican group should be banned from participating in a big Republican conference, and for that, social conservatives are begging her to "clarify."

Controversy has been brewing for months over GOProud, a gay conservative group, and its participation in CPAC, one of the biggest Republican events of the year--a must-do for most aspiring presidential hopefuls. Many social conservative groups are boycotting the conference because GOProud was allowed to participate. But Palin said she thought GOProud belonged at the table, telling the Christian Broadcasting Network, "Should conservatives not reach out to others, not participate in events or forums that perhaps arising within those forums are issues that maybe we don’t personally agree with? And I say no." Palin then likened letting a gay group in the conference to sitting on a panel with "a bunch of the liberal folks."

I’ve known a few- one was from Kuwait. Went to a wedding once for his sister. She was the most beautiful Arabian Princess (and her bridesmaids) you ever saw- obviously their tradition predates Islam.

They do seem unwilling to take a stand against the militants- who are they more afraid of?

Sounds like we are going to have a tough time finding a perfect candidate. Good thing CPAC isn’t a church organization. Although the way some of the ecumenical churches have been going, they might have less problems with GOProud than average conservatives.

As ABC News' Michael Falcone notes, American Principles Project president Frank Cannon called on Palin to "clarify" whether her definition of marriage is "a core component of conservatism"--since she probably wouldn't want a socialist group to participate in CPAC.

Has she clarified yet?

Alaskans may be similar to us high Sierra people. People of all persuasions can participate in society. But.. a fellow had better keep his hands to himself.

Gov. Palin is an attractive candidate and she will attract lesbian and gay support as well. She has advocates in both communities and probably will make every effort to make all voters comfortable with her. If you think she will change her views informed by her religion in order to win over any certain constituency, you don’t understand Gov. Palin.

Right after she clarifies her retweet of Tammy’s little ditty, I’m sure.

David Keene is responsible for alienating conservatives around the country by allowing GO Proud a place in CPAC. GO Proud advocates same-sex “marriage,” a repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and “expanding access to domestic partner benefits” for homosexuals. Our wise leader, Jim Robinson, is among those boycotting CPAC.

I consider GO Proud a Trojan Horse designed to destroy what was a good home for conservatives around the country. I commend Sarah Palin for turning down the invitation to speak. She is being careful not to make comments about CPAC because she is well aware of the political dynamics at work in this situation.

One of my close friends, who has been a major player with CPAC, has told me he wouldn’t touch CPAC with a ten foot pole. His organization along with others are jerking their funding of CPAC. Those who will sustain CPAC are not conservatives.

First of all, homosexuality is not compatible with our Constitution which is based on Natural Law Theory and God’s Laws. We can not retain the Republic if we kick the Founding legal system out.

Postmodern German philosophy (philosophy of cultural Marxism and the push for homosexual paganism/hedonism) does not accept Christianity in the public square. It is blatantly unconstitutional to create laws that go against Natural Law.

Oliver Wendell Holmes removed our moral system away from its base: Natural Law theory which presupposes a Supreme Being. That should NEVER be allowed.

We cease to the the United States of America where we have inalienable right from GOD. Certain things are immutable—certain things were inalienable....NO ONE and NO LAW can deny the right to worship God or deny Natural Law Theory.

Homosexuality promoted by legal force, does both. It rewrites the Bible or makes it Hate Speech. You can not say that this behavior is genetic...it is a lie...proven by science...so it can NEVER be equated with race. It is a behavior that is learned....look at Afghanistan. That homosexual country not only sodomizes boys which is a part of homosexuality, because you HAVE to pervert a boys nature when they are forming their sexual identity. It also hates women.

When you endorse demeaning sexual behaviors that make human beings amoral animals....then they will treat people like animals. It is what the homosexual brownshirts did in Germany. They molested the Hitler Youth. Hitler put known pederasts in charge. They brought boys for the SA officers to use. The Greeks pro-homosexual culture gave boys for mentoring to men when they were seven. It was sexual mentoring and no different than Afghanistan, except the Greeks trained the boys so they could be warriors and not just prostitutes.

All those laws that have orientation in it are unconstitutional...that means beastiality has to be respected and pederasty or incest. If orientation was genetic...then why are some men attracted to infants or animals. You honestly think they are born attracted to an animal or baby. How bizarre is that thinking?????? Homosexuality is learned....because of emotional and/or physical trauma in the formative years of childhood. By endorsing homosexuality we are condoning child abuse. It defies logic to accept their premise that homosexuality is not caused by trauma. It is right out of cultural Marxism and a lie.

Palin and all Conservatives have to get back to the meaning and intent of the Constitution. Black’s Law Dictionary defined civil marriage as “the legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.” How have we allowed the judiciary to define it differently. It is immutable...and the Founding Fathers plainly stated that Natural Law is universal for all people and cultures and NEVER CHANGES. It is MARX that says everything EVOLVES!!!! That is Communism, NOT OUR REPUBLIC.

To not acknowledge the difference in a male and female is bizarre and Marxist. They want to “redesign” women and men to their image—not God’s. We are a government under God—that is why we are exceptional.

I can not even believe I have to write this.

Marxists twisted the language and meaning of words to control the dialogue and thinking and they are using Alinsky techniques to destroy everyone who dares say the truth. Political Correctness is killing this country and creating twisted thinking. It is like we are living in Alice’s Wonderland.

"Palin is still an official sponsor via SarahPAC."

I guess you would call it exploring the hornet's nest. Some kind of showing at CPAC is better than no showing; especially when it means influencing the crowd for the straw vote later. With SarahPAC being sponsors of the Presidential Diamond Reception it tells me they are playing the political dynamics as best as they can.

I’d reckon she was in before the GOProud crowd was. I don’t really care, since I’ve not been enamored by CPAC for some time.

Palin has a libertarian view on gays

LOL.  Debatable. She can't sweep this issue under the rug, at some point in time she's going to have to be honest about her position on gays, the gay agenda and DADT itself. Like it or not, this is a litmus test for social conservatives. Dodging the issue altogether or staking a nuanced view is totally unacceptable and she will get hammered for it by social conservatives and the press if she goes that route.

Pawenty opposed the repeal. Pawlenty isn’t as conservative as you think.

Opposing the repeal was the conservative position.

Homosexuality is clearly a sin for any believer. Sin is a choice

Do you imply then that heterosexuals are making a choice to not be homosexual? Freud felt similarly I think. In his book "Totem and Taboo" he described primitive aboriginal tribesmen and their various taboo prohibitions. According to him, touching a religious idol, for example, was prohibited to everyone except a priest of sufficient rank or, possibly a king. He believed that it was prohibited because once common tribesmen saw other common tribesmen touching the religious idol without any divine consequences, the power of the God would come into question as would the power of the priest and the King. What's more, the violator himself would become taboo. To look upon him would invite further violations and, as such, violators of the taboo prohibition had to be punished lest the entire tribe succumb to their temptation. Punishment typically meant death of course. It's an interesting book chocked full of useless tidbits like this.
