Several sources familiar with the ongoing investigation tell WTOP fire and police investigators believe the radiator in Turton's 2008 BMW X5 was punctured when it rolled into a workbench. The halogen headlights, which emit a bluish light and illuminate the road better than conventional headlights, stayed on after the radiator was punctured.

I thought that NASCAR vehicles only used water as a coolant?

I’d be ok with them if they were for brights only - since they do provide better lighting and your not supposed to use the brights with oncoming traffic anyway....course there will always be the uncourteous, but we get those anyway.

Wouldn’t suggest it. Those lights have “brights” too and you’ll get those directed right back at you.

Regarding Xenons:

They are white, not blue. They have a sharp cutoff (for the benefit of oncoming drivers, better than old pre-halogen headlights. Because of refraction effects, there is a slight blue tinge at the cutoff, which is what you perceive.

In my estimation, and the negative perceptions by oncoming drivers can be explained largely by social resentment, because these lights are associated with expensive cars, plus general ignorance perception. They are more noticeable because they are in the minority, and notice leads to annoyance, especially when combined with the wealth resentment psychology.

Is there anyone who owns a vehicle with Xenon headlights who finds Xenons in oncoming traffic annoying or impairing? I thought not, case closed. (I wish everyone had them.)

And as to the ass who thinks he needs to shine his brights because he doesn’t like my $2000 headlights, I ask: “Have you really thought through the consequences of blinding vehicles that are closing on yours at over 100 mph combined speed?”

I think those who complain about the headlights are related to those who will cut off or delay a used Mercedes worth $4000 with their $30,000 pickup truck, because they have wealth resentment issues.

Wonder where she was flying that day with this merger to be announced

Progress Energy (NYSE: PGN), headquartered in Raleigh, N.C, I checked the flight schedule in January and Reagan had a flight that went direct at 6:40 to Raleigh that arrived in time for her to be at the announcement of the 14 billion dollar merger.

I love conspiracies. How about she snuck out of the house to do some freebasing? Then a cover-up story...
That would explain it.

The whole benefit of Xenons isn’t brightness, but cutoff. No point in investing in expensive lights for a dumb, broad beam pattern.

Now, about the morons who drive with fog lights only because it’s “cool”...

Utter horse puckey. You've certainly shown your biases though.

I guess it doesn’t matter! They’re pissed! And they’re going to get high-beam blues that will blind them but good!

And I’m blinded by the light not your brilliant wealth so I’ll give you my brights and move further to the center of the road to protect myself. :-)

Put me in the category of someone who finds those new bluish halogen headlights to be a road hazard to oncoming traffic. Why the DOT approved them is beyond me.

We won't have to worry about blue headlights because the EPA is increasing the mandated percentage of ethanol in our gasoline......which will shut down our cars and alleviate the problem.

This story was followed by many including the whitehouse back in Jan.

It appears we are being watched by someone at a crisis management company that works with the energy companies and someone in the white house.

You have got to be kidding! None of that story makes any sense. How the heck could she have rammed anything with such speed and force in that little garage? Especially busting the radiator BACKING up and knocking herself out? Oh, puleese, the antifree and the headlights??? Give me a break. Though I did notice the picture was taken dutifully showing the left side of the garage which matches with the tall tale “they” are feeding us about the fire being on the driver’s side. Funny thing though, the pictures taken when the fire was active showed the flames on the passenger’s side. Whatever. I’m putting this another in the growing Chicagocide list.

Thanks, makes sense. One of the reports I read said the neighbors were awakened by a racket and called 911 once they saw the fire. Odd that the neighbors could hear something, but the husband did not.

Thanks for the ping. This still doesn’t compute. It raises even more likelihood of an official coverup.

They’ll end up flashing theirs back. I don’t care. I just want them to be annoyed by having the lights. If enough people did it, they’d eventually get frustrated and get rid of the damn things.
