At the center of what many critics have called an overblown debate about the nationality of her wardrobe, Michelle Obama is making the rounds with the press this week to talk about that and the issues she really wants to talk about. At a lunch with reporters in the White House yesterday, the first lady — clad in a Marc Jacobs dress and silver pumps — said she wears what looks good, irrespective of label.
“I like to patronize American designers, and the vast majority of the clothes that I wear are [designed by Americans.] But there are a lot of other designers that have cute stuff, too,” Obama said. “I don't think that I’m any different from any other woman, other than the fact that people see what I wear and then they talk about it.”
If that's not a practical enough explanation, you know how else she picks out her clothes?
“It’s really just sort of, how cold is it? Do I have to stand outside, and what am I going to use to cover my arms if I’m freezing so I’m not shivering while I have to give a speech? It’s really stuff like that. And I know people are sort of thinking that it’s different, but it’s real practical stuff like that.”

And finally addressing her own style for just a moment, she said of the attention paid to it, "I take it as a compliment." She was quick to add, "It's not something I focus on ... Everybody's got to get dressed in the morning and put on something. I hope people find it nice, but it's not something I focus on." Makes one of us.

“designed” by americans, or “made in” america?
even the stuff designed by american designers is usually made in china, korea, india, or mexico. and often the fabric is from yet another country.
Michelle is to design as Black Eyed peas are to Superbowl halftime entertainment.
Gee, wonder why Michelle isn't getting the same treatment...?
And just who is paying for Michelle's clothes? Is she obeying ethics regs and tax laws regarding gifts/freebies/comps?

I’m a woman. My husband and I work full time. Luckily he’s off 48 hours at a time to watch and teach our son. I am off weekends and summer. We work our butts off, and I even have a garden to provide veg all year long. We bargain shop and use generic diapers.
Mrs. Obama, you are different from me. I buy my clothes second hand or on sale for at least 75% off. I shopped like this long before your husband came to power. Not because was poor, but because it was a way to save money and invest in my private retirement account. Now I continue to shop like this because your husband’s socialist beliefs are making ends hard to meet. Mrs. Obama, my husband and I are making more money now that we were five years ago, yet my dollar does not go as far. I am not like you, so do not insist that I am.

Well, that explains a lot. That woman dresses like a troglodyte. No wonder Moochelle’s outfits are so hideous.

Seriously, Matt Lauer is physically smaller that Michelle and Michelle’s shoes are bigger than his.
I thought fashion designers made clothes for petite females not in sizes for male cross dressers.

OK I am going to say SOMETHING NICE about Michelle Obama, she is NOT an ugly woman BUT her attitude and demeaner MAKES her ugly. She really needs to see the 2 consultants on TLC’s “What NOT to wear”.
I understand that you are not a "fashion model" or some size "0" waif. However, your appearance is a matter of world-wide importance. It's silly, I agree, but that is the nature of our society: The way you look is perceived by many people as a reflection of the way America looks.
Businessmen understand the power of an excellent wardrobe when they want to be taken seriously. The difference between you and them is that you are "on-duty" 24-hours a day for the entire time your husband is in office - even pop stars are allowed more freedom from criticism than you because, at the end of the day, they're still just entertainment.
You are (supposed to be) the elegant, feminine representation of the power of the U.S.A. that the rest of the world wants to grow-up and be like. It's not fair; it's just the way it is. You are competing for us on the world stage, and we're losing.

When she put herself on the public forum and started mouthing off, she becamse fair game.
Chewy has never, will never look remotely good in anything she puts on.
Considering the atrocious clothes she chooses, and her

Liberal guilt is at an alltime crescendo at the point that they know that Obama has a true fight in 2012 to keep the WH as the Senate, House and unless a Conservative Supreme Court Justice retires, a 5 to 4.5 (Kennedy can move to the Left and Right) in the SCOTUS...
The crazy media Liberals keep saying she is a fashion icon, when in fact, her face is not unattractive, but her hate of the US shines through...and she has a huge lower half, which makes it like putting a shower curtain on a buffalo, vs. a slim-fitting skirt and form-fitting blouse that Sarah Palin wears with a 25-year old’s body and grace.
The lying Commie media continues to tell us things that we know are not true...their dishonesty continues and we are not buying it.
