"Dozens of American cities throughout the industrial Great Lakes states and Midwest have lost half of their populations over the course of one generation -- places like Cleveland, Youngstown, Detroit, Warren, Buffalo and Flint. This is the first time that so many cities have lost half of their populations in such a short amount of time since the Plague struck Europe in 1348........."

And they spread their diseased voting habits to cities like mine...Richmond, VA.
This is quite the demographic shift.
Interesting. I always thought of Socialism as like a disease.
The Plague of Liberalism.
Perhaps we could make it a disease as the Left has made alcoholism a disease, and get them treated. That I’d be happy to pay for. The alternative is grim.
Snowmobiling in Calumet where they use to have 60,000 during it’s heyday and now has 1200
They move to towns and cities not yet bankrupt and start demanding all the handouts and freebies they had “back home”.
It’s what the founders always suspected when creating the federalist system....the people will vote with their feet.
Wow, that's stunning. Unfortunately, also like the Plague, these liberal refugees take their disease with them wherever they go, continuing to spread their infection.
It is not just a decline in population, it is more like a leaching out of the more productive elements who used to live in the cities. This leaves a nonproductive populace that is largely dependent on taxpayer subsidies to survive. Like everything else that is liberal, it is unsustainable in the long run.
...and the GOP is foolish not to use these hard facts in every campaign in the nation. The evidence is clear, dem governance kills jobs, disrupts civil societies, and sows misery.
Actually, a significant part of that loss will be the results of government-furnished abortions.
a plague did strike those cites, the liberal plague
The cult of the state eventually demands actual human sacrifice, not mere depopulation, but hey, it’s a start!
But, oddly enough, those very large cities aren't so large anymore. And yet the vote tallies from those cities remain large enough to shift the entire state into the Blue Zone.
“And they spread their diseased voting habits to cities like mine...Richmond, VA.”
That’s the problem. My brother is an old school, hardcore Democrat. He thinks that the reason for the implosion of those cities is Republicans screwing people. My brother got wound up on SB Sunday and was mouthing off saying: “Name one good thing Republicans have done and I’ll shut up.” My son in law, who’s in the Army said: “They give me raises.” So, my idiot brother says: “That doesn’t count”.
Naturally, that’s how Democrats do things, they create their own reality, and if you confuse them with facts they deny what you have to say.
So, Democrats think that Republicans are responsible for the ruin of these cities, and will move and ruin other cities.
“...since the Plague struck Europe in 1348”
That was due to global warming.
That’s the best part - the population is drastically reduced but the number of voters stays the same
And the worst part is that this happens in patches all over the city, so that you can’t simply raze the affected areas and start farming there. City services are still spread over a large geographic areas which keeps costs much higher than needed. What a waste.
“Very interesting read, they talk about the Great Lakes region but it could apply to Pittsburgh, too (my area). “
I’d consider Pittsburgh part of that region. 175 miles from Cleveland, similar population base.
The plague was also due to rats....or the flea’s that they carried....ironic
“They move to towns and cities not yet bankrupt and start demanding all the handouts and freebies they had back home.”
Yep, I was at my small town Post Office listening to a New Yorker transplant complaining about the lack of services we had around here like. Sooo much better in New York. I told her well, you can always move back to places like that. She said, “Do you know how expensive it is to live there?”
Guess all the Republicans and conservative Democrats have moved out.
Not to offend anyone, but I wish all these places would revive and thrive, so their inhabitants would quit moving this way. It is bad enough trying to make room for the exodus of Californians and illegals.
Where was that picture taken?
“I always thought of Socialism as like a disease.”
More specifically a venereal disease spread by prostitutes and poverty pimps.
Real snowmobilers don’t vote democrat. After 25 years in Vermont, I do miss snowmobiling but
it’s good to be away from all those leftists.
You and I know I am joking with my statement.
But here is the argument which I read several years back which makes sense to me:
How could all those bugs invade those countries simultaneously so quickly and instantaneously?
My comment on global warming is a joke of course. But there is more to this infestation we don’t understand. How did it spread so quickly at jet speed at an alarming rate?
Just north of Detroit, 3rd largest city in Michigan, where I live.
BTW our mayor shouldn’t be shown with the others, he’s keeping city services going w/o layoffs of police and fire, also no tax increases.
When the gangsta’s, welfare queens, crack dealers, criminals, etc. overpopulate cities, they become just another Detroit.....with a population that lives for “OBAMA MONEY”, and have no sense of responsibility, decency, morality, or self-respect.....if they DID, then they leave for suburbia. Likewise, they immediately surrender their votes to corruption and the Democrats, and wonder why the cities now resemble Beirut in their landscape.
I would like to be around when some of the invaders go up against the "illegal at the regester" in the local burger slop that speaks "engrish."
Plagues consume what they can and then move on to their next target.
Is there a political equivalent of DDT? When I was a boy, my Dad used DDT generously on the farm. Insect infestations were unknown, our chickens laid eggs with normal shell thickness and the sweet corn we grew fetched a premium because it was pest free. I could never see the downside to DDT.
“It’s like having diabetes or lupus.”
Yes, it is a disease.
The writer assumes that the government should control where people live. Don’t individuals decide that? Do we really want to change that?
A lot of it was war, and the refugees they generate. Trade had a lot to do with the quick spread of disease too.
When the day comes that some really deadly disease with a long enough incubation period to allow sources to be masked at least for a while, the thing that will kill the most people, will be airplanes, because they make the world so much smaller than it used to be.
Warren was mentioned in the article, so I put his picture up.

Can’t bring facts into that discussion. I’m looking into breeding unicorns so they can pull the plows and the droppings will raise super large tomatoes.
That’s cool, it’s just he isn’t a jerk as mayor.
Pulling plows, eating grass and crapping out gold would be better than large tomato’s.:O)
In Ohio, southeast of Cleveland and north of Youngstown. I grew up there. I go back for high school class reunions. It's appalling what has happened to my old home town.
I once had a summer job at Republic Steel, in Warren, between years at college. I quickly understood the union mentality and what it was doing to productivity at the plant. I'm not surprised that the whole plant is now sitting there abandoned and rusting.
Unions, taxes, and regulations killed the Rust Belt. The only solution to some of those cities is to pile dirt on them and start over with a population willing to work.
How could a city with no Republicans be screwed by Republicans?
