Joe Biden: 'They're gonna own our kids' without high-speed rail
Washington Post ^ | Alexandra Petri

Posted on 02/09/2011 1:16:13 PM PST by Responsibility2nd

Speaking about the need for high-speed rail, Vice President Joe Biden commented that, "If we don't get a grip, folks, they'll not only be teaching us, they're gonna own our kids."

What?

If I'd known that all it required to own someone's kids was to discourage him from supporting high-speed rail, I would be beating Angelina Jolie right now in the people's-kids-owning-game.

Leaving aside the numerous objections to high-speed rail, this seems like an odd thing to say under any circumstances. I understand that this makes it characteristic of Joe Biden. I think the most impossible quiz in the world would be something called, "Joe Biden Quote Or Something An Old Guy In a Sweater Says To You To Make Conversation At The Gas Pump." It's sort of a mouthful, but I think most of his remarks pass the test.

"I had a successful dump!"

"You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent....I'm not joking." (Something Biden actually said to an Indian-American man that was caught by C-SPAN)

"Big [verbing] deal!"

And now this one. Fail to get a grip, and they'll own our kids.

Things look pretty bleak for our kids, based on the remarks our public officials have been making. They are, apparently, going to be outsmarted, outcompeted, out-Sputniked, outparented, owned, transformed into robot slaves, outsourced, and forced to appear on the NBC comedy "Outsourced," all by people from another country who are marching back and forth doing calculus in the snow, or something.

Yes, that’s why I was completely shocked you could buy one. Of course owning tool and die business like I do I realize that just about anyone could make one with a Bridgeport, but still, why make it so easy for them?

Take money out of roads and roads deteriorate. As roads deteriorate, upkeep on cars becomes ever more expensive. As automobile costs rise people will be forced to move to cities where rail is available transportation.

Rail limits how much you can carry and where you can carry it to. My ideal vacation means spending hours driving down washboard two tracks with a thousand lbs of camping gear. Rail will prevent me from despoiling the wilderness with my presence.

I really don't understand the obsession the left has with high speed rail.

Can someone explain, in simple English, why the left continues to insist on pumping money down this rathole?

I don’t think it’d take more than 20-30 bucks to go down to the local hardware store and build something that would perform the same function. Particularly for a train that was moving fast. The whole idea is pure hatred of America. And just think how they can employ lots of new people in brown shirts to “control” those thousands of miles of vulnerable track.

Yet again, I must apologize to all of America for Delaware’s failure to deport him to the Château d’If.

Any school that he attended must be busy scrubbing his name from the alum list.

On my more cynical days I think it’s so they can already be loading the trains for a return trip to the new “camps” when the news breaks about Citizens being rounded up.

Only if you socialists succeed in killing capitalism, the Constitution, and the American culture!

High-Speed Rail or “lite rail” only “works” in a quarter of the metro areas it’s been installed.

It provides jobs while under construction and is well subsidized, but quickly becomes a losing operation.

high speed rail will just make us all the poorer, imagine the billion dollar annual subsidies AFTER we spend $100Billion to build it.

You have said it. Pumping money and rathole are 2 of the 3 prime principles of progressivism. The third is the destruction of free enterprise.

“they’re gonna own our kids.”

What an insensitive thing to say during black history month being our country is only four generations removed from slavery.
