The only angle that could get this much pressure on them is minorities or Unions. Is there a Union angle?

The jobs would all be unionized, as they are in current rail business, but the issue I think runs deeper. Liberals are control freaks. They don't like seeing individuals driving wherever they want, whenever they want, scattered and bunched along thousands of miles of roadway. It is messy. It is not neat. It is inefficient, this freedom business. It is out of control. Unacceptible.

Take money out of roads and roads deteriorate. As roads deteriorate, upkeep on cars becomes ever more expensive. As automobile costs rise people will be forced to move to cities where rail is available transportation.

Rail limits how much you can carry and where you can carry it to. My ideal vacation means spending hours driving down washboard two tracks with a thousand lbs of camping gear. Rail will prevent me from despoiling the wilderness with my presence.
