WASHINGTON — Under pressure to make deeper spending cuts and blindsided by embarrassing floor defeats, House Republican leaders are quickly discovering the limits of control over their ideologically driven and independent-minded new majority.
For the second consecutive day, House Republicans on Wednesday lost a floor vote due to a mini-revolt, this time over a plan to demand a repayment from the United Nations. Earlier in the day, members of the party’s conservative bloc used a closed-door party meeting to push the leadership to go well beyond its plans to trim about $40 billion from domestic spending and foreign aid this year, demanding $100 billion or more

But Mr. Rogers (Hal Rodgers,R)and other Republicans warned that doubling the cuts could have substantial consequences for federal agencies, resulting in layoffs and furloughs of federal law enforcement officers and air traffic controllers, steep cuts in education and medical research programs and major changes at the Food and Drug Administration.
Ummmm...that's the idea numnutz!

Right and we should believe in what comes out of the New York Times??
They need to mount a revolt and try to elect someone like Bachmann as the speaker. Boehner is just another entrenched Washington elitist. He may be a lot more conservative than Pelosi, but so was Karl Marx.

I say MORE, a lot MORE—how about cutting 500 billion now and then really bring out the meat cleaver for the next fiscal year. Eliminate the Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Ed., HUD, HHS, Homeland InSecurity, Civil Rights Division of the Dept. of InJustice, EPA, etc., etc.
If we keep going the way we’re going, we won’t be able to afford them later. Either we do it now or we do it later. The American people understand if we don’t bring spending under control, their children won’t have a future.
Battle? Turmoil? Pelosi/Marx?

Hal Rodgers and his ilk are Dim Light—they are big government Republicans, like Bush, and are the ones who have done so much to weaken the Republican party.
Rodgers and his buddies need to go in 2012. They are part of the problem rather than the solution.
I am for that. New Leadership is needed not the Three Amigos these so called Young Guns are turning out to be.
The NYT is trying to foment unrest....granted the RINOs are putting up as much of a rear guard fight as they can, they are being over taken in a quiet revolution.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, and one the NYT refuses to lambast, the dems are killing off any movement to the center. Nothing could be better for the country than for the dem party to be exposed as a bunch of wide eyed free spending socialists.
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.
This demonstrates that before the battle with the liberalism found in the Democratic Party, the first war is to blow up the current GOP and return it to true conservative principles, not big government Republicanism.
When we budget, we cut things regardless of if we WANT them because that is the responsible way to spend OTHER PEOPLE’s money.
First of all where in the Constitution does it authorize Congress to fund education or medical research programs? And so what if there are drastic changes. American citizens are forced to make drastic changes every time Congress passes a new law.
By definition, every law that is passed is another Liberty that is lost.

Right on! Good budgeting during difficult times is always going to bring pain.
Everyone knows by now that advice to the R's from the NYT is like Sitting Bull advising Custer on battle strategy.
The problem here is the sorry ass leadership of the republicans in congress. It needs to be changed.
Problem is, conservatives even on FR still get taken in.
I remember back in '08 how the NYT snookered millions of conservatives into believing in the Mark Foley gay "scandal" (including the majority here on FR).
The NYT and their minions split the party and gay San Fran Nan got the Speaker chair largely as a result of that Oct "surprise".
From the New York SLIMES comes more “Wishful Thinking,” and their never ending quest to diss Conservatives in an effort to mislead and make a mountain out of a molehill as they work dilligently (albeit misguidedly cuz it ain’t gonna’ happen) towards what they would pine for in 2012; a return to Demo-Rat Control.
Budget issues and rolling back decades of failed progressive programs is going take some time.
2010 brought in the first wave of fiscal conservatives and they are battling entrenched career politicians from both parties. The fight is on but we are not getting all the info due to a very frightened GOP Old Guard and a severely tainted Media.
It will be at least a couple more election cycles before their are enough new bloods to start turning the progressive tide.
We need to SUPPORT the freshman class of GOP/Tea Party conservatives while preparing to weed out RINO’s in 2012.
One step at a time.
