U.S. sources closely involved in the government's handling of the Egyptian crisis told NBC News that they were "taken by surprise" by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's announcement and that it appears "Mubarak is going nowhere."
The officials told NBCs Jim Miklaszewski that they were especially concerned about Mubarak's apparent declaration that he would "federalize the streets." They said, however, that their reaction was based on an initial translation of Mubarak's remarks.
"We have assurances, both private and public that the military would not fire on the people," one of the officials stressed.

The neo-marxists in the White House and State Dept are not pleased. Neither is their puppetmaster György Schwartz.
Obamas ‘3 a.m. Phone Call Went Right to the Answering Machine’ ~Governor Sarah Palin
It doesn’t surprise me that anything surprises these idiots. It may be the ‘out’ thing to say but Obama and his administration is an Fail of Epic Proportions.
Just thinking about Sunday has put DNC Dave under heavy sedation and suicide watch.
Homer Simpson would have a better grasp of what is going on.
“That 3 a.m. phone call from Egypt to Obama went right to the answering machine.” - Sarah Palin
Heh heh heh ...
Just about every report involving the White House these days contains the word ‘unexpected’.
So what would be different about this report? It’s a given that the White House is in the dark.
Get back to us when it isn’t.
(Not you Free ThinkerNY)
Everything is unexpected to Zero.
That is why we need someone who knows what he’s doing in the White House.
I’ll bet Soros is giving Obama an earfull right now... “you idiot... I bet half my portfolio on the fall of Egypt.. can’t you do anything right?”
What the h3ll did we expect? Sudden wisdom from Zero?
Watching Glenn Beck now. He has been covering all this quiet extensively over the past 2 weeks.
He is right.
Sunrise surprises this administration.
And I’ve got a grandaughter that wears an Obama tee shirt.
Yeah, and after listening to the message for weeks, Obambi still doesn’t know what to say when he does answer.
These guys in office havent a clue as to what is going on. Embarrassing to say the least, frightening mostly.
Just one more in a string of foreign policy defeats for “The Won”.
He’s so bad.
Too bad for you Obama you are not calling the shots
Of course they were taken by surprise. The State Dept and the Incompetent in Chief can’t even predict sunrise.
Hey, a guy is standing up to Obama’s fellow travelers. That wasn’t in the script. Who knew?
Look, him giving tacit approval for the Muslim Brotherhood to walk right in should scare the holy hell out of all of us.
The direct result could very easily be a massive Middle-East war within months.
Obama’s strategic thinking is limited to what Bill Ayers, George Soros, and Michelle tell him it is. He doesn’t know squat, and she probably tells him when he can or can’t.
So, you remain in power in the face of pressure from the USA, and that's a failure??
The Left has no idea what's going on, or what they themselves are saying. Children at play in a world which demands adult attention.
Now that’s harsh. You know as well as I do that the White House is fully labeled so Obama knows which way to face when praying multiple times per day. Smirk.
Our first president that we know about with rug burns...
Can’t help myself...
But today Obama gave his “Yes We Can” speech to the Facebook crowd in Egypt!
How could this happen?
Seems the fate of Egypt could now rest on DOCUMENT #2.
I wanna hear again about Obama's IQ, his chiseled abs and his "brilliant communication skills". Unfortunately, none of that helps when surrounded by total incompetence.
This is not a government...its a clown circus.
“U.S. sources closely involved in the government’s handling of the Egyptian crisis told NBC News that they were “taken by surprise” by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s announcement...”
CAIRO (AFP) 2210 GMT: An unnamed US administration official tells CNN that Mubarak’s speech was “not what we were told would happen, not what we wanted to happen.”
Told by whom? Who do these idiots think is in charge? And why?
The Marxist agitators in the White House should be evicted for national security.
Obama is now outside the loop of international politics. I would not be surprised to find out that his sources in Egypt were told to lie to him.
Nobody trusts him.
Mubarack Hussein Obama “hearts” the Muslim Brotherhood.
I did LOL at that. Great observation D.
“Told by whom? Who do these idiots think is in charge? And why?”
After the Obama administration had shoved Mubarak under the bus and stuck a knife in his back along with decades of being a strong ally, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it was Mubarak himself. How would you react if you got stabbed in the back after you made an ally out of a nation none of your neigbhors were too happy about you allying yourself with?
When you have Robert Gibbs proclaiming your administration should have been gone “yesterday....”
I hadn’t considered that Mubarak had ‘set him up’.
Possible! but I think they are listening to bad sources.
I thought for sure someone was going to object siting Clinton, but no takers... LOL
It surprised the incompetent, inexperienced, illegitimate, idiotic Obama regime, but MSLSD can't bring themselves to say it.
Must be time for another vacation.
The only liberal arts course I took in college 30+ years ago that has any relevance today was a history course that covered the Middle East from the birth of Mohammed to the birth of the modern state of Israel in 1948. This was in pre political correctness days and the professor dived deep into both the religion and culture of Islam and its impact on the development of the societies and countries. The knowledge gleaned from that course has allowed me to see how inept our foreign policy has been in dealing with the Arab and Persian world. Our leaders, Republican and Democratic, deal with these peoples and nations from a 21st century secular western perspective and are constantly surprised at the behavior of the nations and peoples of the Middle East. For all of their intellectual brilliance, the modern day elites are unable to develop even a basic understanding the core beliefs and cultural norms dictating much of the behavior.
The implications of overthrowing the Shah of Iran, deposing Sadaam, and now trying to push out Mubarak were easy to foresee with only a rudimentary understanding of the history and culture of the region.
I hope some day our elites will heed the warnings of our founding fathers to stay out of the affairs of nations far away. Unfortunately, we seem compelled to intervene to the detriment of the people we are ostensibly trying to help and our own national interest.
"Aw, man, you'd be wrong there..."
is he stepping down or not? the media been hyping that he’s leaving for days now. Their source was probably obama
You idiots that voted for Obama really thought this through; didn’t you?
See theDentist, I told ya. ;^)
I knew someone would correct me Yaelle.
You’re not exactly correct. Remember, it wasn’t Clinton who was on his knees!
The media will cover for the administration. Can you imagine how the MSM would have covered this if this were the Bush administration?
Mubarak hoodwinked the media and Bowrama. I find myself giggling inside!
