U.S. sources closely involved in the government's handling of the Egyptian crisis told NBC News that they were "taken by surprise" by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's announcement and that it appears "Mubarak is going nowhere."
The officials told NBCs Jim Miklaszewski that they were especially concerned about Mubarak's apparent declaration that he would "federalize the streets." They said, however, that their reaction was based on an initial translation of Mubarak's remarks.
"We have assurances, both private and public that the military would not fire on the people," one of the officials stressed.

Look, him giving tacit approval for the Muslim Brotherhood to walk right in should scare the holy hell out of all of us.
The direct result could very easily be a massive Middle-East war within months.
Obama’s strategic thinking is limited to what Bill Ayers, George Soros, and Michelle tell him it is. He doesn’t know squat, and she probably tells him when he can or can’t.

How could this happen?
Seems the fate of Egypt could now rest on DOCUMENT #2.
I wanna hear again about Obama's IQ, his chiseled abs and his "brilliant communication skills". Unfortunately, none of that helps when surrounded by total incompetence.

Told by whom? Who do these idiots think is in charge? And why?

Obama is now outside the loop of international politics. I would not be surprised to find out that his sources in Egypt were told to lie to him.

After the Obama administration had shoved Mubarak under the bus and stuck a knife in his back along with decades of being a strong ally, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it was Mubarak himself. How would you react if you got stabbed in the back after you made an ally out of a nation none of your neigbhors were too happy about you allying yourself with?
When you have Robert Gibbs proclaiming your administration should have been gone “yesterday....”
I hadn’t considered that Mubarak had ‘set him up’.
