Rising corn prices push up grocery costs With corn prices on the rise, shoppers will have to pay a little bit more at the store by Cliff Erwin and Lisa Rose, KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- We've been watching grocery prices go up for months. Shortages of wheat, coffee, and soybeans have been to blame. Now corn causes concern. Analysts predict a big drop in the corn supply and increased demand. That means consumers will pay the price.
"We'll see price increases on quite a few items, not only corn items, but also meat items and corn syrup based items," said Sean Madden, assistant manager of Smillie's Market.
Those prices are going up in part because U.S. corn crops are down this year. Predictions are our surplus of corn in this country will be at its lowest in 15 years.
"Unfortunately it's the consumer that's going to suffer in the end," Madden said.
"We have to expect that. Everything else is going up," said shopper Edna Ayers.
Crop supplies have suffered because of the weather here, but also because of poor weather conditions worldwide and increasing demand for our corn in other countries. Another factor is the ethanol industry's drain on the U.S. corn supply, and prices have nowhere to go but up.
"When the corn goes up, it puts pressure on the other grains," said Madden. "So it affects about everything plus the feed prices for animals."
It forces families to pay more in an already stressed economy.
"It's either going up in price or you get less for your money," said Ayers. "I think you're going to have to leave more money aside for your groceries."
That's okay with some shoppers, as long as they believe their money is going back to support the local farmer.
"I grew up on a farm and I know what a farmer's life is like. Every cent they get, they deserve, I'm just not sure the middle man does," said Ayers.
Also threatening to drive up grocery prices are increased production and transportation costs related to rising gas and oil prices.
Imagine if aliens came to this country and we told them we burned our food for fuel.
Rising corn prices push up gasoline costs as well................
We may need to start planting obama gardens...lol
As far as the left is concerned, this is a double header victory.
If you can reduce both the food supply and the energy supply at the same time, it’s a great day.
You can reduce the population and make them less mobile,
which allows you to control them more easily.
If corn prices are high, does that mean the Federal Government can stop subsidizing it now?
exactly as Glenn Beck said would happen.
Prepare. can’t say it enough.
Plus taxpayers get hit for another seven Billion dollars per year
We aren’t looking at the big picture.
Just think how much money these ethanol subsidies generate in contributions to politicians.
There is also a lousy veggie harvest in Mexico, prices will spike for that too
This article would be the perfect learning tool for college aged idiots who don’t get/aren’t taught “supply and demand”. All the prof has to do is read the story to the class, rattle off a list of what the kenyan usurper has done and advocated for 2 years and voila! They understand why the kenyan/democrats need to go.

Mexico crop loss 80 to 100 percent
C’mon! My belle say we be too fat any way. Tighten your belt!
Do you want to save the planet, or not.
I imagine that they would kick our arses for allowing it to happen.
personally I’m willing to live with two years of intense economic pain so long as it sends the Misery Index high enough to shove Barry Obama over the edge of the cliff of history.
