CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Len Crenshaw, the man accused of cruelty to a family pet, says he never intended to hurt the animal.

Crenshaw was arrested this week and charged with general ill treatment of animals/torture. The Horry County Police Department says officers found Crenshaw's dog "Buddy" in the back yard with multiple collars that were too small and embedded in the skin around the dog's neck.

Crenshaw said in an interview Friday he was upset about Buddy's condition, and he explained that he left too much of the dog's care to his adolescent sons.

"What happened was neglect on my behalf," Crenshaw admitted. "I let the children be responsible for the dog and in the long run the dog had to suffer. I'm not an animal hater. I love animals. I've had animals all my life. I grew up on a farm." posted using frpa

I'm sorry but you can't claim to be an “animal lover” and yet be totally unaware of a family pets condition for months. I'm not buying this. What is worse is the guy wants to blame his sons for the dogs condition. While they might be culpable also this jackass is ultimately responsible. What a lowlife!

I’m sorry....I can’t read the story but what little bit I saw is upsetting enough. If I were queen of the world, I would inflict the same kind of misery on humans that they inflict on animals and never think twice about it......case closed.

Yeah, I felt the same. I started not to post it, but I think people like this symbolize everything that is wrong with society. If you do this to “a pet” then how do you treat others?

We really need to pray hard for humanity.

We just had our young boxer fixed. I am hurting for her as she looks so invaded and in pain.

I had people tell us to bob her tail, but I can’t do it. I am a softy.

I hunt, fish and am not a vegetarian, but I still don’t want anything to suffer.

Mr. Crenshaw, lately fashioning himself an animal lover, casts about for someone to blame for neglecting his dog to the point that it’s collar was embedded in it’s neck. And who does he blame? His own kids.

Sounds like the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree.

You and I musta been separated at birth FreeAtlanta.....:)I’m crazy about animals and can’t stand them being abused. We took one of our Pugs to the vet today for shots and bloodwork and Hub held him all evening. He’s worse than I am....LOL.

Don’t do her tail now, she is way too old and instead of being a dock it will now be considered an amputation. Believe it or not a dock should be done within 4 days of birth max.

Clearly a yard dog. Probably chained with an Igloo for shelter. The guy obviously never went near the dog to pet it otherwise he would have known the collar was too tight!

I’m not buying his excuses. A teenage boy is old enough to notice that a collar is too tight, much less digging into the flesh of the dog.
