TEHRAN, Iran – Iran's opposition on Sunday renewed its call for a rally in support of protesters in Tunisia and Egypt despite a government warning of repercussions if demonstrations take place, a reformist website reported.

In a statement published on Kaleme.com, the opposition urged its supporters to rally on Monday in central Tehran and accused the government of hypocrisy by voicing support for the Egyptian and Tunisian uprisings while refusing to allow Iranian political activists to stage a peaceful demonstration.

Iran pressures opposition ahead of planned rally

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110213/wl_nm/us_iran_opposition_rally

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iranian authorities have stepped up pressure on pro-democracy movement supporters to prevent a revival of anti-government protests, opposition websites said on Sunday after the arrest of 18 activists before a planned rally.

State authorities refused permission requested by opposition leaders Mirhossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi to stage a rally on February 14 in solidarity with the people of Egypt and Tunisia who toppled their presidents in popular uprisings.

What will Obama do?

Probably go golfing.

The last time that I saw the Shahyad Monument, it was covered with grafitti from the revolution.

"Iranian opposition defies warning, calls for rally"

Just wait for the deafening silence from the White House.

Don’t think it will be silence.

I fully expect Obama and his administration to crap on the rally.

It will be a call for ‘calm’ or ‘moderation’ from the protesters or some such double-speak.

This is a defining moment for Obama, and the Iranian protesters know it. Will Obama stand with the Iranian reformers or the Muslim theocratic thugs?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

[Will Obama stand with the Iranian reformers or the Muslim theocratic thugs?]

Obama has a second chance to effect regime change in Iran. If a new uprising happens he could take advantage of his celebrity status in Europe and the UN and call on all countries to declare the Iranian government “illegitimate and void” based on rigged elections and suppression of human rights. Such a declaration by enough nations could pave the way to freezing Iranian assets around the world, a military coalition with air and naval blockades, and material aid to the opposition.

ODUMBI the coward, will jump all over the Egyptian revolution because there is no risk for him, but he will keep his big lips shut when it comes to Iranian revolution ‘cause the fears the mullahs will cut his head off.

Even better, will Obama send Bill Ayers, Bernadette Dorn, Code Pink, Acorn International, and a full staff of GOOGLE computer hacks on leave from GOOGLE Dubai to help the reformers set up their revolutionary comm systems, as he did in Cairo with shekels from Code Pink and Soros???

I wish we had a president who wold taunt Iran, saying “if Ahmedinijad allowed what they did in Egypt, the Iranian people would string him up like Mussolini. He’s a coward and a tyrant and his days are numbered”. Instead we have a pantywaist fool.
