Retuers is quoting an eye-witness in Tehran who reports that sec. forces and police are in Valiasr Sqr, blocking metro stations.
Yep- hard to know yet how far this will go. The one in 2009 was so intense and somehow I had the sense the people were totally drained afterwards. To actually topple this regime would be truly a miracle- and we know this security force will not be afraid to shoot is own people- though apparently they’ve been told not to get violent. We’ll see.

2:50 p.m. Confirmed: The Interior Ministry has issued a permit for the Tehran march.
Unconfirmed: Reports that Turkish President Abdullah Gul will join the protesters in Tehran.
Unconfirmed: Reports that Gul asked the government of Iran to give the protesters the permit to demonstrate and the government succumbed to his demands.
That will certainly change the dynamics of the situation if it's true.
If they can turn Iran my thoughts on Egypt will improve considerably.

2:50 p.m. And the government is now publicly declaring no permit has been issued, contrary to the report from the central state news unit. That report and related ones are now disappearing.
