"Hey, Grandpa. Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, Adam."
"What's Valentine's Day about?"
"It's a day to celebrate love."
"Yeah I don't get it."
"Romance?"
"Still don't get it."
"Well, you have a girlfriend, right? The one with the tattoos?"
"Ink, Grandpa."
"Ink. I don't know her name because you never bring her inside."
"Her parents call her Emily. But that's lame. She goes by sweetcakes77@yahoo.com."
"I see. But she's your girl?"
"Whoa. That's like, way, possessive, Gramps. We just hang."
"How long have you been hanging?"
"Six years."
"And what are you doing for Valentine's Day?"
"That's the thing. Like, what am I supposed to do for this whole holiday and stuff?"
"You do something romantic."
"Oh, right, uh. Like what?"
'Well, Adam, you could bring her flowers."
"From the ground? Yuck."
"From a florist."
"How much?
"A dozen roses? Maybe $30?"
"Dude! I could buy a video game for that."
"How about chocolates?"
"She's totally no-carb."
"Take her somewhere nice?"
"Yeah. I could go over to her place and watch 'Jersey Shore' -- like we usually do."
"I meant a real date. A fancy restaurant. A nice meal. Candlelight."
"Come on, Gramps. Who does that? Candlelight? You can't even see who's texting you."

that is so sad.... with both parents working to survice (if there are 2 parents, and children being raised by the state have really messed up.. our children really deserve much, much more than this.
they need to learn that there is a BIG difference in being in lust and being in love and mutual respect vs. usery.

Now that was hilarious.
It’s so simple.
Make it mandatory for schools (K-12) to hand out colored condoms on Valentines Day.
Oh wait, some schools probably already do.
oops... that wasn’t satire... eesh
LOL! That was good.
Oh, dear. I’m afraid this is all too real.

You are correct. I could not even find any amusement in it because it is not that far-fetched. So sad to see the interaction between males and females in Gen X, Y, etc.
And my students wonder why my family does not watch TV.
My oldest (20) gave her "Valentine" (the very fine young man I suspect will be our first "son") a simple red box. Inside were 100 handwritten slips - on the inside cover: "100 reasons why I love you". She said he was so touched it nearly brought him to tears.
Funny, but it goes back to a time when she was about 14--she had spent the summer complaining about her life and the things that weren't being done for her. I had enough of it, and issued her an assignment: No phone, computer, or social life of any sort until she gave me a list of 100 things she appreciated about our family--no repeats. And I told her there were certain things I was going to look for in that list.
It did not take her as long to come up with her list as I had expected - and she hit the mark - even "I'm thankful that you take me to church" made the top 100.
For the next two weeks she was to read the list each night before she went to bed.
After that little exercise in gratitude, we had no more attitude, no more "gimmies" and an extremely appreciative young lady in the house. The lesson was not lost on her younger sisters - the mere threat of a writing assingment has been enough to keep them in line, lol.
