What Haley Barbour Didn't Tell Fox News - He Lobbied for Amnesty for Illegals
Time Magazine ^ | 2-13-2010 | Michael Sherer

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour made the case Sunday on Fox News that his career as a high-powered federal lobbyist for domestic corporations and foreign governments would be an asset if he ran for President in 2012. (excerpt)

Barbour may be eager to showcase his record, but one of Barbour's foreign lobbying clients could cause him some troubles in the 2012 Republican primary, if he decides to run. According to a State Department filing by Barbour's former lobbying firm, The Embassy of Mexico decided to retain Barbour's services on August 15, 2001, to work on, among other things, legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for foreigners living illegally in the United States—what opponents of immigration reform call “amnesty.”

US politicians that lobby for foreign countries, foreign interests and being paid to lobby for Mexico and amnesty for illegals will never get my vote. He will be scratched from my list just as was McCain and Lindsey Graham. I have my doubts that the mainstream institutional leadership of the Republican Party has ever opposed amnesty and illegal immigration as the US Chamber of Commerce supports it.

Remember the source of this “report.”

The left will sow dissention and hatred amongst their enemies. Don’t believe what they say.

If someone paid me, I’d lobby for anything they want. I think that is the point of a lobbying business.

Fair point. It isn’t as though he was pushing for it in Mississippi (although I’ve never heard if he was, or wasn’t).

It still raises my antenna. Illegal immigration is an issue that politicians often talk about but then refuse to actually do anything about because so many are on the take from those who want it. All we need to do is examine what happened since the last amnesty 25 years ago.

Jan Brewer has real credibility here as well as Tancredo, etc. Illegal immigration has done much to harm our country fiscally and in many other ways. I won’t vote for anyone who even hints to be in favor of amnesty. Once an amnesty advocate always an amnesty advocate (i.e, McCain, Graham).

Well said. Just because someone lobbies for something, doesnt mean he personally supports it. Not unlike a defense attorney defending a criminal.

I'd place more emphasis on what Barbour did as governor.

Correct.

Once a RINO applies as well ;-)
