Boehner: If some federal workers lose jobs because of GOP cuts, 'so be it'

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday if some federal workers lose jobs because of Republican-proposed spending cuts, "so be it." But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was quick to say "not so be it."

"Over the last two years since President Obama has taken office, the federal government has added 200,000 new federal jobs and if some of those jobs are lost in this, so be it," Boehner said during a news conference with reporters at the Republican National Committee. "We're broke! It's time for us to get serious about how we're spending the nation's money."

Boehner, who was joined by other House Republican leaders, criticized the President's budget proposal for not cutting enough and said Republicans would address entitlement reform when they release their budget blueprint this spring.

"Republicans will not punt," said Boehner. "Everything's on the table. We will put forward a budget that deals with the big challenges that face our country…I have no doubts that all of these issues [Social Security and Medicare] will be on the table."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi seized on Boehner's comments in a speech on the floor, saying Republicans' proposed cuts would leave many in the cold.

The lib media is tone deaf. They think this hurts the Repubs.

Government has to be cut. Shielding the leeches because the bureaucracy will be vindictive, is the wrong way to go.

6 percent? Wow. That means you’d only see a turnover in close to 20 years, as opposed to 5.

That’s HUGE!

They'll fire contractors before they fire civil servants, believe me. Been there, had that done to me. Agencies like DoD, NASA, Dept. of Energy, all make use of contractors to get most of the real, useful work done. They'll axe those and keep the paper pushers. It's already happened to NASA under Obama. Thousands of people working on Ares and Orion have been canned, and the GOP had nothing to do with it. So the ‘Rats better not try the old, hackneyed “mean Republicans firing poor Federal workers” gambit, because the blood is on their hands already

They’ll just get rid of the disabled vets from Iraq and Afghanistan. I am sure that FREEPERS will be fine with it. That is who got the jobs in the last two years.....pat yourselves on the back.

This is highly selective and highly unlikely propaganda. Are you serious? Do you have a shred of evidence or links to back this up? Can you post a link to a FReeper that calls specifically for disabled vets to be hurt or abused in some way?

No, I don't think you can.

We could only hope that a few civil service employees would take the hit, but I won’t hold my breath.

This will mean wielding the dreaded force of the RIF, feared by all goobermintt employees as few are spared in its onslaught.

Of course RIFed employees are eligible for preferential placcement back into the system. Can’t keep a good public servant down

Maybe they’ll get rid of a few of the criminals who work “on the take” at the DMV, issuing fake driver’s licenses to illegals.

“Show them the door, then change the benefit packages that draws scum to government employment. The states as as guilty as the Central Socialist Government! Get rid of 75% of these loafers.”

Yep. It’s the only way it can be done.

They can cut welfare employees for this reason alone:

The Federal government ADMITS that welfare is only about 30% efficient.

So..
if you add up the welfare benefits a person on average received it is about $20,000 per year.

Since that is only 30% of the total spent per person, the total must be about $66,000.

So, out of $66,000, $46,000 is lost to overhead.

That is a pretty good full time job salary.

Or in other words, there is almost one government employee for every person on welfare.

Even If you want to be generous and give them the benefit of the doubt (because I know liberals will jump all over that word ‘almost’), there is still CERTAINLY enough money for one full time employee for every two people on welfare.

It would be cheaper just to give them jobs, except that many are too stupid to have a job. And breeding more stupid people all the time.

The movie “Idiocracy” is beginning to feel more like a documentary than a comedy.

Lets be honest, cutting contractors is key.

The only people that gain from contractors are the board of directors and c-levels at these beltway contractors

Lockheed, Northrup Grumman, CSC, BAE, etc all charge the taxpayers overhead of over 100 percent, G&A costs of 10-15 percent, and fringe benefits in the 30-40 percent range.

A person whose salary is 50 dollars an hour costs the taxpayer 150 dollars an hour when you add in base pay, fringe, overhead and G&A.

And yes this would personally hurt me as I flipped over to the contractor side a few years ago after being involved in national secruity so that I could cash in on this game.

You eliminate or reduce the use of contractors and you will save the taxpayers a very large chunk of money

Honestly, aside from a few totally unnecessary agencies (Dept. of Education anyone?) most of the cuts could come from letting people retire who will be retiring, and just not replacing them, or shifting around responsibilities.

Getting rid of the unions would probably fix most of the rest of the problem, and make government employment more or less on-par with the private sector.

Not only should Federal jobs be cut severely, foreign aid should be discontinued indefinitely, superfluous and ineffective Federal programs permanently discarded, aid to Planned Parenthood stopped immediately! Defense should be revved up, including on our southern border.Rather than penalizing American citizens who have paid into Social Security all their lives, benefits to illegal aliens should be denied completely, and immigration laws now on the books followed faithfully. No more bailouts!

Then, my Congressional friends, we should see some positive progress.
