Boehner: If some federal workers lose jobs because of GOP cuts, 'so be it'

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday if some federal workers lose jobs because of Republican-proposed spending cuts, "so be it." But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was quick to say "not so be it."

"Over the last two years since President Obama has taken office, the federal government has added 200,000 new federal jobs and if some of those jobs are lost in this, so be it," Boehner said during a news conference with reporters at the Republican National Committee. "We're broke! It's time for us to get serious about how we're spending the nation's money."

Boehner, who was joined by other House Republican leaders, criticized the President's budget proposal for not cutting enough and said Republicans would address entitlement reform when they release their budget blueprint this spring.

"Republicans will not punt," said Boehner. "Everything's on the table. We will put forward a budget that deals with the big challenges that face our country…I have no doubts that all of these issues [Social Security and Medicare] will be on the table."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi seized on Boehner's comments in a speech on the floor, saying Republicans' proposed cuts would leave many in the cold.

Some?

How 'bout lots of them; like maybe half?

We don't need them. They need us. Get rid of them.

They could cut the federal workforce in half and there would be still too many.

Let’s not forget the massive “agricultural supports” to farmers for not growing crops.

Oh, and the billions we’re paying to Blackwater or Xe or whatever they’re calling themselves this week.

Doesn’t surprise me that you don’t give a crap about the vets. No surprise at all.

So you'll be right there with Pelosi accusing the Republicans of hurting 'women, kids, and disabled vets'. Enjoy your new friends.

And as far as me 'not caring' all I have to say is this:

Blow me.

Very nice. Inspired, even.

Figures given in the article cited were for the year 2008, so they are not current. They hope to have as many as 50,000 veterans, not limited to disabled veterans, by 2012, so currently there are far fewer than that.

Certainly experienced vets, including disabled vets, would be able to find jobs in an economy boosted by trimming the excessive spending of the government. They can compete as well as anybody.

In any event the size of the govt needs to be trimmed regardless of who it cuts because WE CAN'T AFFORD IT, WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO SUPPORT IT.

By trimming the govt we put more money back into the economy which will grow and create REAL jobs the vets can have. It is that simple.

Stooge. Good one.

Let's take the numbers from the article....2008 and do the math shall we?

480,000 Federal employees of which 6% are disabled vets.

480,000 * 6% = 28,800.

Somehow that doesn't add up to ALL the jobs going to disabled vets as you inferred in your post.

One article does not a fact make. Any other source besides the Executive Branch propaganda machine?
