Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps made a case for a government hand in media policy in a speech to the FCBA on Tuesday. "The commission can act now. It should have acted on the media before now. I am disappointed that it has not," he said. The decline of "real journalism" justifies federal involvement, according to Copps. "The news is suffering from a bad case of substance abuse," he said. The Democratic commissioner pointed to Fox News' Bernie Goldberg and Bill O'Reilly as examples of the problem with today's media landscape,

The media of the Left get government funding.

The media of the Right get government scrutiny.

I be this idiot tool would say that NPR and PBS ‘play it right down the middle’.

This is creeping me out!
It’s the control of the airwaves without any Congressional oversight.
The key going forward, according to Copps, is “making sure there is media about, and originating from, the local communities a station serves.”

Congress has given the FCC power to get involved in the Communications Acts, according to Copps. It may want to give the agency more power to promote media diversity and competition, he said.

The commissioner also reiterated his call for a “Public Value Test” as part of the broadcasting license renewal, a process controlled by the FCC.

Translation: "Real journalism" means "carrying the federal government's water."

From the article:

“What you and I are getting these days is too much opinion based on opinion and too little news based on fact,” Copps said.

The key going forward, according to Copps, is “making sure there is media about, and originating from, the local communities a station serves.”

The commissioner also reiterated his call for a “Public Value Test” as part of the broadcasting license renewal, a process controlled by the FCC. “

Just how much opinion is too much? And just how much opinion am I getting Mr. Copps?

It’s none of your business.

A bunch of commies trying to control free speech.

The decline of "real journalism" justifies federal involvement

The increase in federal involvement justifies second amendment remedies.

Gee. I wonder who gets to define “real”? Maybe we can get Dan Rather out of retirement.

Michael Copps is the Democrat kook at the FCC who spent ten years single-mindedly pursuing fines for Janet Jackson’s nip-slip during the Super Bowl halftime show. Astounding that this nutjob is still at the FCC.

Government should be only a temporary stay for those in it. Should be.

I would like to see some of those House “in its” cop such an attitude, and defund everything NOT originally Constitutionally ordained.

There’s a whole list that should be defunded, and eventually eliminated that would put our budget in the black should the list be lined through as accomplished line by line.

The FCC shoudl be totally defunded and shut down. The only reason for the FCC to exist should only be to validate electronic products don’t cause radio interference with radios. What goes over those waves shouldn’t be under government control.

Mr. Copps, you idiotic Marxist buffoon.

If there was “REAL Journalism” practiced by the Predominant “Main Stream” Media, OFuhrer would not last a WEEK in the Witehouse.

In other words... WATCH what you ask for... You MIGHT GET it!!

It’s a great idea. Break radio stations out by county. As a matter of fact, change the electoral process to be based on county.

I wouldn’t mind that 83% of counties in the US are republican.

Goldberg and O’Reilly are problems, but I’m sure Copps had no problem with Dan “Fake but Accurate” Rather.
