Lara Logan: I'm Going Back To Work
TMZ ^ | 2/16/11 | TMZ Staff

CBS reporter Lara Logan is vowing to return to work ... and she's telling friends what happened to her in Egypt will not destroy her.

Sources familiar with the situation tell us the details of Logan's assault are horrible -- but Lara is back with her kids and is vowing to go back to work within weeks.

I am so sorry for what happened to Lara Logan, and I wish her a full and rapid recovery.

I have some questions, though, about this troubling episode. Why did her employer allow employees to be exposed to mob violence? Why did Ms. Logan agree to the assignment? Why did her fellow employees allow Ms. Logan to be separated from them just prior to the attack? On Ms. Logan’s previous trip to Egypt, didn’t the Egyptian military warn Ms. Logan and others of the dangers of going into a frenzied, anti-American, anti-Christian, uncivilized mob?

If Ms. Logan and her network employer had no more sense than to wade into a revolution, I don’t have much use for the whole stupid bunch.

I think this is a perfect example of how the media in this country has no real understanding of the attitudes and behaviors of the middle east.

Even male journalists were being brutally attacked. What made them think that a Western woman wouldn’t be a glaring target for these barbarians?

There may have been some decent Egyptian people who tried to help those being attacked but you can’t throw yourselves amongst the wolves and expect not to be eaten.

Just plain stupid

On that point I will agree with you. It was certainly poor judgment, to say the least.

Actually, to be there at ALL is poor judgment, given a #%*#%*# REVOLUTION was going on. I guess she just expected the protesters to behave the way those vile and violent Tea Party jerks do back home. Probably never expected all that civility.

I wish she had exercised better judgment, but hope this wakes up a large swath of people who refuse to acknowledge the threat we face.

It is no one’s fault other than the attackers. I hope she is doing well and heals quickly.

Perhaps we will hear a change in tone from the left wing press as the number of beaten, raped and roughed up reporters has reached Epic proportions.

As a reporter, she had to know that the thugs that attacked the protesters a few nights before didn’t vanish into thin air... they are all still present, and seething over the events of the past week...

So mothers shouldn't put themselves in harm's way? For example, mothers shouldn't run for president?

I'm not sure how to respond. A non muslim female being president compares to her standing in the middle of an agitated mob of muslim male crazies how?

Shoot me, call me a troglodyte, but I think mothers have elected to have responsibilities which are incongruent with taking stupid risks like this.

That used to be a typically held attitude. I'm sorry to see it challenged even here.

Why did her employer allow employees to be exposed to mob violence?

So they could get interesting pictures and sound to put on their broadcast inbetween the commercials.

Why did Ms. Logan agree to the assignment?

It's her job. She seems to enjoy it.

Why did her fellow employees allow Ms. Logan to be separated from them just prior to the attack?

Self-preservation.

On Ms. Logan’s previous trip to Egypt, didn’t the Egyptian military warn Ms. Logan and others of the dangers of going into a frenzied, anti-American, anti-Christian, uncivilized mob?

Don't know.

If Ms. Logan and her network employer had no more sense than to wade into a revolution, I don’t have much use for the whole stupid bunch.

I've never seen any of her work, so I guess you could say I had no use for her and/or CBS before or after. I watched the live feed on Al Jazeera/English on my laptop. I always like going with the home team broadcast when possible.

“Back with her children” translates to “single mother”. Should single mothers deliberately place themselves in dangerous situations, or do they have a greater obligation to their children? I believe her children should take priority over her career.

10 seconds of research would have informed you that she is currently married. Perhaps you should scrap your current translator, as it is obviously flawed.

You said mother’s should not put themselves in harm’s way. Presidents, in my view, put themselves in harm’s way by accepting that office. Either mothers can put themselves in harm’s way, or they can’t.

Yep. The Indy 500 is a story too but you don't stand on the start/finish line in the middle of the race to report on it.

It was naive of her to go. It was naive of her bosses to let her go. Same with women in military. Chaos is just that. The ‘assumptions’ that a reporter would be honored are just that — assumptions proven wrong by reality.

Reality has a nasty bite, and it doesn’t bend to political correctness - ‘all religions are the same; they just want what we want; newspeople will be honored and left alone; Western civ is not singular.’

Reality.

generally speking, there are times when its necessary someone take physical risks - are you contending that parents are totally interchangeable in this regard?

The US government refused to send women into battle until recently, and used to avoid sending fathers into harms way, as well.

I think the press already knows, but for some reason, believe they are immune to it...no matter how many assault’s occur.

These “thugs” WERE the “protesters” and at that point they were celebrating their victoy. But we can’t call them thugs - and CBS sure can’t - because they were Obama’s chosen thugs, so maybe they were just “protesters” singing Kumbaya and running up to give her flowers and it was all a big misunderstanding.

Seriously, this woman was just doing her job, whether you like her or not and regardless of her personal life. I think the danger may have been minimized by her employer, however, particularly since at that point, the “protesters” (not to be confused with “thugs”) should have been pretty mellow because they were celebrating their apparent victory.

I agree FULLY with you skeeter. Unfortunately the world has gone selfishly mad and the thing of prime consideration is whatever it is a woman wants to do she will do regardless of others or obligations.
