A major consumer group today called for a government ban on two types of caramel coloring used in colas, warning that the ingredients could cause cancer. The soft drink industry came out swinging, strongly objecting to the claim.

I think this is the same group that argued that natural fats were bad for you, and must be replaced by artifically created trans-fats, which it now argues are bad for you, and mustg be replaced by natural fats. . .

The question is whether cola requires caramel colorings. Probably not, but what would be the color without them. Some off beige? green?
CSPI is as you say a commie front group. I first heard of them when they were warning of the health risks of beef chimichanga’s and thought to myself, who the hell eats that many chimichanga’s in a week/month/year? once a week, twice a month, 25 to 30 of them in a year worst case. Realized then that they were full of BS and were simply a buzzkill bunch. Raining on the parade of anyone who might enjoy their life.

The company that manufactures the caramel color is located in Louisville, Kentucky. They are the DD Williams company. They are quiet and low profile. I’m sure they are outraged with this report.
