West Bank field trip for Israeli kids stirs anger

JERUSALEM – At a time when peace talks with the Palestinians are stalled over Jewish settlements, the Israeli government plans to send schoolchildren on field trips to a disputed holy site in one of the West Bank's most volatile flash points.

Education Minister Gideon Saar says the visits to Hebron, burial site of the biblical patriarch Abraham and home to some of Israel's most radical settlers, are part of a plan to acquaint Israeli youngsters with their heritage.

"It is a place of emotional, religious and historical power," Saar, a leading member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party, told Israel Radio on Wednesday. "It is the place where our ancestors are buried and it is part of our history. Whoever objects to this, in my view, is trying to disconnect us from our roots."

Palestinian and Israeli critics both call it an exercise in indoctrination that will ignore the thousands of dispossessed Palestinians living nearby.

Wonderful. It's fine w/ the MSM that Jews are not permitted to live in Arab states and territories. Now they shouldn't visit holy sites there either. Why? Because Abraham, like Jesus, is a "shared patriarch" w/ Muslims, and that the Jewish schoolchildren who visit are not being told how "Palestinians" are oppressed in Hebron. Are worshippers at the Al Aqsa mosque expected to express regret for terrorist attacks in Jerusalem? It's always interesting how Palestinian "anger" always is considered a worthy news story.

Who are these "Israeli critics"? They need to be identified and deported to Gaza.

Well, when Islam controlled Hebron, no Jew was allowed inside Abraham’s tomb for some 700 years. (The Prince of Wales was allowed in the 19th century to enter, likely the only non-Muslim to do so since the Crusades).

To be fair, why not bar muslims for 700 years; and then after that, share equally?

"Typical of Israel, another poke in the eye to Palestinians."

The problems with Muslims is Islam (LOL). The West hasn't come to terms with the fact that followers of Islam are the enemy. What will it take? A nuke taking out one of our cities? Our government, main stream media and intellectual elites need to revisit Neville Chamberlain. When we start treating Islam like fascism (Nazism), which it is, we'll be on the right track. We need to get rid of government leadershiop that fails to see us in a state of war with Islam, which indeed we are. It's pathetic that we're unwilling to call a spade a spade. Islam is the enemy!! Always has been!!

There should be no dispute over the Cave of Machpelah. It is 100% JEWISH!

Isaac is buried there. NOT Ishmael.
Jacob is buried there, NOT Esau.
Abraham is buried there, as he PURCHASED the Cave and the surrounding area for a Burial Place for his immediate FAMILY.

The amount paid, borders, and transaction terms are duly recorded in the Book of Genesis.

And yes, I have BEEN there.

This is retarded. School kids visit Hebron all the time. So do tourists. Suddenly, the AP decides that this is a big deal?

“that will ignore the thousands of dispossessed Palestinians living nearby”

What crap. Hebron’s Arab population has doubled since 1967, and many of them live in nicer houses than the Jews nearby do, and they pay only a fraction of the rent that the Jews nearby do. “dispossessed.” Ha!
