Steve Southerland (FL-2) on WFLA !! [Says he will "consider" RAISING debt ceiling)

even the CONSDIERATION of raising the debt ceiling is a mistake IMHO..... I realize that is an opinion.. but you seem to be suggesting that Steve did NOT say that he would consider raising the debt ceiling... I said that he was very clear about that fact that he did not WANT to raise the debt ceiling and was pushing hard for spending cuts that would sufficient enough to AVOID raising the debt ceiling.. that is a far cry from taking a hard stance AGAINST raising the debt ceiling... (of course with the exception which I stated)

What were his 'considerations'?

A lot of good folks believe that it is NECESSARY to raise the debt ceiling.. and are willing to do so as long as they get what they want.... I disagree with Steve on this if that is in fact how he votes !! we will see...

What has Steve said to make you believe that he thinks it is necessary to raise the debt ceiling?

I am not going to debate what Steve may or may not do... let’s wait and see how he votes.. and how he justifies his vote... You are making FAR too much of a big deal over this.. if Steve got a bunch of phone calls from folks like me who were disappointed with what he said on that interview than so be it.. but in the end the VOTES are what count... let us BOTH hope he votes the RIGHT way ! Before that interview I would have bet you that he would NEVER vote to raise the debt ceiling.. after that interview I would not make that bet.. but I would love to be proven wrong.. :)

it’s not so much what he said but what he DID NOT say that matters... he was asked if he would support raising the debt ceiling and he refused to take a hard stance AGAINST doing so... that is troubling to me....

:) I did call his office and was told that Steve is concerned about “defaulting on our national credit card”... I explained that no one is suggesting that we default... congress needs to do what we do as individuals and that is only spend what you have.. we can’t keep paying one credit card with another credit card.. and since we the people issue the approving authority for a new credit card it is up to us to just say NO !
