Senate Democrats plan to boycott Thursday vote on Walker's budget plan (hiding)

Law enforcement are now searching for Democratic senators boycotting a Senate vote on Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair plan Thursday in an attempt to bring the lawmakers to the floor to allow Republicans to move forward on the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) said that Democrats were "not showing up for work" and that police were searching for them to bring them to the floor. He said the last time such an action had happened was in the 1990s and said he was not sure how much authority law enforcement officials would have to compel Democrats to show up.

"That's not democracy. That's not what this chamber is about," Fitzgerald said of the boycott to reporters.

Sen. Tim Cullen (D-Janesville) confirmed Thursday that Democrats will boycott the Senate action today on the budget-repair bill in efforts to block a quorum and keep the measure from passing. He said Democrats hope delaying the bill will give more time for union demonstrators who are protesting the bill's cutting of almost all union bargaining rights for public employees.

Because 20 senators of the 33-member house are needed to be present to pass a fiscal bill, the body's 19 Republicans will not be enough to pass the budget repair bill without at least one Democrat present.

"They can't pass this bill if there's not a Democrat in the chamber," Cullen said.

Cullen said the decision was made by other Democrats at a meeting at which he was not present.

Fitzgerald said he hadn't seen a Democratic senator so far Thursday and also questioned whether Democrats are boycotting the proceeding.

The Senate convened at 11:30, with 17 Republicans but no Democrats present. After a prayer and the pledge of allegiance, action was immediately disrupted by demonstrators in the gallery shouting, "Freedom, democracy, unions."

Getting crazy in People's Republic of Madistan today. Democracy has taken leave as union thugs make it more like Cairo than an American city.

My son is sending pics, one compares Gov Walker to Hitler, another to Nixon, and still another to Hosni Mubarak.

Also, nice to see the illegal immigration amnesty crowd marching with their banners and chanting 'se si puedo'...The Capital Police just left the building with their lights and sirens on, supposedly to search for the Rats so they can haul them back to do their job. Amazing...Fox News, NY Times, Politico, MSNBC, and others all there on the front lines as the citizens attempt to overthrow our duly elected Governor and legislature

Well, Govenor Walker said he’d use the state National Guard to fill in for workers who don’t show up. Here’s a job opportunity.

My son now says they have middle school kids marching and chanting. He suggests hiring ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ to track down the missing Rat Senators

If Walker is Mubarak, the unions are the Muslim Brotherhood.

Time for what? We got the drift. If the Dems stretch this out to the weekend, they will find their ranks swollen by tea partiers.

It’s time for the Governor to fire the legislators who do not show up, and appoint all Republicans.

I remember when Texas Democrats were doing this.

I don’t remember the GOP ever doing it.

This battle is the most captivating to me, do the public servants rule the masters (taxpayers)?

The scumbag Democrats, LMAO!!
I remember when the scumbag Democrats in Texas did this a few years back. They actually hid out in Oklahoma, and I think that was so they’d have to be extradicted if captured.

Our MN rats did something similar when the “concealed and carry” law came up for vote years ago.

They were dubbed the “Flowerpot Gang”—hiding among the giant potted plants in the capitol rotunda at the time.

Yes. But the parasites can’t believe the corpse is really dead.

Where’s that “Chicken Dems” graphic that someone made the other time that Democrat politicians fled their capital so they wouldn’t have to vote on something? It was a few years ago?

I pray the kid's a senior - teachers aren't very 'tolerant' when it comes to conservative kids...

Unions can still bargain for salaries, even if Walker gets all he wants.

(cops and firefighters excluded from Walker’s proposal as they are deemed highest priority)

To be fair, the police are a legitimate reason for government to exist, but I’d make them convert to defined contribution plans, too or go pound sand.
