Walker irked by Obama's meddling
By MJ LEE
Updated: 02/18/11 9:27 AM

Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, confronted with thousands of protesters outside of the state capitol in Madison, says “it would be wise for the president” to stay out of his state’s business.

“I think we’re focused on balancing our budget,” Walker said on Fox News Friday morning. “It would be wise for the president and others in Washington to focus on balancing their budget, which they are a long ways from doing.”

The governor – just a mere six weeks into his job – added that he is not threatened by the agenda of Washington politicians. “We're not going to be intimidated by people coming in from outside of Wisconsin trying to tell us what we need to do to balance our budget,” Walker said. “The bottom line is, we got elected to do a job.”

For days, Wisconsin’s union members have been demonstrating against legislation proposed by Walker last week that aims to reduce the power of public sector unions and cut into members’ paychecks. But Walker continued to insist that his decision is not about “degrading public employees.”

How the heck can the FED even think about telling a state how to balance their budget? That would be like a super fat person telling me how to lose weight.

These people who are protesting, why aren’t they at work? How many teachers are there, skipping school? They should be identified and fired if they should be working.

It sounds as if Walker is going to stay strong. I think he will. Reagan took incredible heat for the air traffic controller thing, but in the end, he won, they lost.

These people need to grow up and realize that a lot of people don’t have jobs. Being a teacher or other ‘public servant’ doesn’t make one holy or off bounds.

WHAT THESE COMMUNIST THUGS IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND THEIR UNION ALLIES DON’T UNDERSTAND IS THAT THEY ARE RAISING THE NATIONAL PROFILE OF THIS REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR AS A CRUSADER FOR THE TAX PAYER. THEY ARE MAKING HIM A STAR!!!

Whooaaa Nelly. Six weeks in office does not make one Presidential material.

Of course not. Nevertheless, it shows enough potential promise that he's someone that ought to be looked at for a potential future run (say, in 2020).

Precisely the reason Barry won't. Wisdom and Barry are like oil and water. Barry prefers to sink to the bottom.

Walker was specifically elected on a program to cut wasteful spedning. Naturally, the teacher’s and other unions threw their support behind his opponent. I’m not seeing anything in my local lib rag (La Crosse (Wis) Tribune) about the people who support Walker. I think he has the support of the majority of the people. All I’m seeing is pictures and stories of the teachers and the idiot kids who support them.

"Obama just can’t stand to keep his trap shut, and the more he comments on the issues the more he sticks his foot in his mouth. Obamas like the shepherd boy that kept on yelling wolf. Pretty soon nobody will pay any attention to the One’s blatherings at all."

We are seeing the community organizer/agitator in action. This is what Obama does best - setting people against each other, causing turmoil and crises that he can use to his advantage.

Any real sympathy the teachers/public unions had when this started is GONE. The State of WI had a historical vote only 3 months ago and in a landslide us voters sent this group to Madison to do exactly this.

This is happening period.

If the children miss days they have to get a doctors permit to go back to school..If these teacher miss days they should also have to do the same..They know that people are afraid of the union thugs so they don't care I would love to see a few lawyers get involved in this and take names then take those to court..

I have to say not all teachers are like these gimme crowd's There are those that do their job and wnat to teach..those should get the the praise they deserve..

What are the rules on using “sick” time for teachers?

Can they use the time as they please or must it be legitimate as opposed to going out and protesting in the cold for several days?

Walker needs to hold a press conference with a huge “help wanted” banner behind him. He should ask people to start sending in their resumes now because there might be a few positions available soon. And walk out without taking questions...

The La Crosse Tribune staff is shameless. Their treatment of the Mayor of La Crosse has been a one-sided liberal distortion of reality. Their biased articles are unreadable. They don’t even provide decent local sports coverage. But worst of all, it takes a full week of newspapers to accumulate enough paper to clean fish!

Don’t know about the state law but in the Federal government you do have to have a doctor’s excuse if you take more than three days in a row of sick leave.

I do work for the Feds (FAA) and we do pay a share of our health care, contribute to retirement, pay state and federal taxes. Thought I’d throw that in because there are some people on this site who think we don’t pay into anything and it’s all free. Wrong.
