What are the odds that they will not make the return trip?

I'd say the odds of them even coming within 200 miles of their destination (without turning tail) are pretty slim. ....if past provocations are any indication.

I’m sure Obama is “inspired” by this development.

The security of Israel trumps any such agreements. I hope They send the Iranian ships to the bottom of the ocean.

That 1888 agreement is actually quite remarkable in that it doesn't even allow any interference of transit through the canal in a time of war between the signatories.

Key word is "signatories." This is the same mistake that lefties make when talking about the "Geneva Convention". The Geneva Convention, like the Constantinople Accord, apples only to those countries which have actually signed it (hence inoperative in either Iraq or Afghanistan, e.g.).<p> And in WWI, the British effectively shut down the Canal to use by the enemy.

According to treaty I believe that Iran has every right to float their boats through that canal, just like anyone else. What they do on the other side is completely different, but if you believe in international law then what they are doing might be seen as a provocation to some, but by not letting them through it will set a dangerous precedence. Someday it might be our warships that are arbitrarily denied passage through if they are allowed to pick and choose.

Yet during the Six Day War of 1967 the Egyptians sunk several vessels to block the canal till Israel and Egypt signed the Camp David Accords.

I'm wondering if your calendar is off by a few years here. Are you suggesting that the Suez Canal was closed from 1967 until the Camp David Accords were signed in 1976?

BTW, the desire of the U.S. to maintain free passage through the Suez was precisely what made us insist that Israel hand the Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt in 1976. In fact, I've read several unsubstantiated accounts indicating that Henry Kissinger prodded Egypt to invade the Sinai in 1973 specifically to set in motion the process that would remove the Sinai from Israel's hands and make sure the Suez Canal no longer served as a border between two hostile nations.

Wonder what would’ve happened if Egypt said ‘no way’.

They’ll go to Syria for a port visit. There will be speeches and fist waving and cries of “Death to Israel.” Then they’ll go home. Here’s the secret of Iran’s success: everyone treats them like they already have working nukes. They don’t. But the threat drives everyone apeshit crazy.

Settle down. It’s the Iranian Navy. Say it a few times. THE IRANIAN NAVY. Is Israel aware of them, yes. Are they scared of them? I seriously doubt it.

I ask you to not count America out just yet. America, in my lifetime and history, has always been full of surprises. May God be with all of us,

I agree, and I do not count America out. I just don't like to use a lot of words.

The United States of America is the most glorious entity created by man and guided by God, in the history of the planet.

Americans are more reasonable, and generally of better quality and less racist than nationals of other nations. (Sorry, but that's why everybody wants to come to America, including so many that are not worthy.)

However, Americans still have the human frailty of having to learn a lesson first hand to decide permanently that they don't want something. Americans will have to experience first hand the Marxist paradise at home, before they decide to never accept it again. Then they must go through the pain to overthrow that system of governance and the persons that imposed it on them.

Finally, they need to learn a couple of corollaries. Changing the name of socialism/communism does not change the final result in the slightest. Those that advocate socialism are no different than those that advocate burglary and armed robbery, they are criminals and should be treated as such with prison and loss of franchise for life as ex convicts.

Until Americans are willing to decisively act on their knowledge, we will repeat this history over and over.

Just got the straight scoop on FOX. The ships are headed for Syria, the Northern Shia strong hold. Looks like they are forcing the Secular rule out of power.

Get ready for more “Egypt” style Dumbocracy.

Time to withdraw all foreign aid to Egypt. Let them starve.

It is time the USA as the most indebted nation per person on Earth withdraw ALL foreign aid to ALL countries and start putting America and Americans first.

Israel has an agreement with GOD... that trumps the 1888 accord. I stand with Israel.

Those are valid points. But it's interesting to note that Egypt has long held itself as a party to that 1888 agreement even though they technically had no control over the Suez Canal back then.

It's also interesting to note that Britain shut down the Canal in World War I -- in explicit violation of the 1888 treaty -- by establishing a formal British Protectorate in occupied Egypt.

It's also worth noting that when Col. Gamal Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal for Egypt in 1956, the U.S. ended up siding with Egypt against both Britain and France (and Israel, too) -- mainly because Nasser expressed his intention to abide by the "open access" terms of the 1888 agreement. So in that case we saw a bizarre "strange bedfellows" situation where the U.S., the Soviet Union and Egypt -- none of whom were signatories to the 1888 accord -- ended up enforcing the terms of the 1888 accord against two signatories of that accord (Britain and France) as well as a former colony (Israel) of one signatory.

Go figure.

I agree, prayerfully praying history is not about to repeat itself, yet realizing if, praying for a but in there as well ..... I believe God and America is ready, and have already seen some buts on this thread. Some lessons, prayerfully I pray, all of us, have learned concerning history. Speaking only for myself, and nobody else, I still believe in God and America. Great post by you ... btw.
