Organized labor made two complaints Thursday about Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's proposal for a $1.5 billion tax increase: It's not big enough, and the rich won't pay enough of it.
"It has to go much higher," said John Olsen, the president of the Connecticut AFL-CIO.
But how high? Is Olsen, a former Democratic state chairman, advising the first Democratic governor in 20 years to rely exclusively on taxes to erase a $3.2 billion deficit? Should Malloy double his proposed tax increase?
Olsen wouldn't say. Neither would House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan, D-Meriden, who gave Olsen a 60-second introduction at the press conference, then tried to leave without answering questions.
Malloy and his administration insist that he will go no higher on taxes.
"We're getting screamed at for proposing one of the biggest tax increases in Connecticut history," said Roy Occhiogrosso, a Malloy adviser. "How much higher are we supposed to go?"
The coalition of state employee bargaining units responded to Malloy's call this week for $1 billion in concessions and other labor savings by insisting, as they have for two years, that Connecticut has too little tax revenue, not too much spending.

The Dems promoted Obamacare as a 14th Amendment issue - equal protection. These same Dems ignore the 14th Amendment when it comes to a graduated income tax - where is the equality? Conveniently inconsistent!!!
It’s time for Americans to start boycotting unAmerican unions. They don’t care about us, they only care about how much money they can steal to buy themselves more new “toys”. Piggies!
GOVERNMENT UNIONS WILL SEE AMERICA DEAD ON THE FLOOR BEFORE THEY GIVE UP THEIR FAT GOVERNMENT SALARIES AND LOTTERY STYLE TAX PAID GOVERNMENT PENSIONS
Private sector
The private sector is being gang raped by those in government
People need to start asking WHY taxes need to be increased. What is the money being used for?
For the children, AKA their pensions and health care.
Apparently the “Third Rail” of politics is really gold plated union pay and bennies. (Not entitlements).
They have to LIVE in this cess pool of taxation.
The tax increases would have happened and none of us would have known.
The unions are coming apart at the seems and we are getting nearly instantaneous reports thanks to Internet (and FR- please donate!!)
KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!!
The Dems will eventually have to chose between the unions and the voters. I wonder who they will pick?
(Hint: they want to stay in office)
THAT CARTOON SHOULD BE AT EVERY TEA PARTY
1. When TH did the AFL-CIO become an official policymaking body? When did it start openly dictating orders to governments?
2. In any case I would imagine that Mr. Olsen has his own personal "waiver" all ready to go.
How many CT companies have gone under or moved out of state after union demands?
I want the AFL-CIO audited to find out why their pension funds are underwater. What happened to all the money?. How much income do the union officers make? What are their net worth? Has there been any inside trading? The rank and file have the right to know.
John Sweeny, the AFL-CIO President, is compensated a total of $291,718.
In total they have 430 employees, 225 make over 75K per year off union dues. The full salary list is here:

“John Sweeny, the AFL-CIO President, is compensated a total of $291,718.”
Not bad but, how much is he worth?
I’m from Ct..(poor poor pitiful me)
Ct public unions are organized crime. Nothing less.
When Evan Bayh became Gov of Indiana in 89, he brought in the UAW to represent the state employees and paid them off with newly found lottery and casino money. Turned them into his personal lobbying / campaign force. It lasted for 16 yrs.
Mitch Daniels got elected in 04 and his first action was to decertify the union. It has worked out pretty well. I think Indiana is in the best shape of the rust belt states.
