I was hoping Dale, Jr. would win on the 10th Anniversary of his father's death and had a chance until 1st Green, White, Checker.

But what a story that a 20 year old rookie wins the Super Bowl on his 1st attempt!

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. insisted he didn't believe in fairy tales and happy endings.

Trevor Bayne was too young to know any better.

Bayne, in just his second Sprint Cup Series start, pulled off a stunning victory in his first Daytona 500 on Sunday, becoming the youngest winner in the 53 years of the Great American Race. Bayne, who turned 20 the day before the biggest race of his career, took the Wood Brothers back to Victory Lane for the first time since 2001.

We were rooting for Junior too but it was an exciting race and it’s fun to see this kid in victory lane.

Good finish but, on the whole, restrictor plate racing kind of blows.

At halfway I would have never believed Mark Martin would get ap 20 finish, let alone a top 10.

I’m a Gibbs Racing fan, but I was pulling for the kid. I’m ready for some new faces to win races.

This is a good story. I am glad it was a fresh face out there.

Ditto. Hated to see that flat tire force Jr into the pits and knew what was going to happen once that pack got restarted. Ya gotta be up front during a late race restart.

Kudos to the rookie ... great win.

16 cautions is way too many for 206 laps, seems like a lot more pushing the car in front of you. Drafting is fine to me, pushing should be limited.

Geez, just yesterday he was a teenager. He’s #5 in Nationwide series points and now has won The Greatest Race!

I’ve been an Earnhardt racing family fan forever, but this kid’s win was awesome.

Haven’t watched for a year. Boring! Everything is the same! I long for the days of Junior Johnson, and Smokey Yunick, when cars were different.

WOW! But too bad it wasn’t a GIRL... *SMIRK*

(Just puttin’ a burr under the saddles of y’all, LOL!)

What I wouldn’t GIVE to have the cat-like reflexes I had at TWENTY!

I’d say give him the keys to the family car and a bottle of Jack Daniels after THAT run, LOL!

Good on him. :)

I agree, it was a great finish to a lousy race. NASCAR and the TV announcers seem to equate wrecking to racing.
But it was a great three laps at the end.
20 year old kid takes the Wood Brothers back to where thsy haven't been in a way too long a time.

I’m with you there.

I quit watching years ago when all the restrictions and limits were put on the cars and the only difference became the paint.

Same with drag racing.

Man! I remember the days when Smokey put an inflated basketball in the gas tank! He then deflated it, and got in another gallon and a half of gas. He got caught though! Another time, NASCAR put in new fuel tank restrictions, so Smokey ran a big diameter fuel line back and forth, and back and forth, and got another couple of gallons just in the fuel line! Back then, things were fun!

He was in the car doing the towing, rather than being towed, right?

The fact that a unknown kid without a ride for the rest of the year in a car fielded by a has been third rate organization won the race should prove once and for all that restrictor plate races are a crapshoot which doesn’t reward good drivers and good teams. And no, I’m not a junior fan.
