Dear Ken H and Darkwolf377, nobody can say with pointblank certainty that any particular individual is in hell, no matter how hell-bent they were in this life: not Hitler, not Mengele, not even Judas, let alone whole groups, nations, religions, races, or political movements. The Church canonizes, but does not demonize; and we serve the LORD

"who wills that all men be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth"

(1 Timothy 2:4)

If I, a brine-shrimp in the general swim of things, had the power to command, I would command that people adopt the above-headlined attitude as their own; and if they cannot, they should stop talking in the name of the LORD.

As for appalling criminals getting unmerited mercy at the last second: that is God's business to figure out, not (thank God) mine.

Thanks for the ping. I met him once about ten years ago at a pro-life Christmas party. A story of redemption. RIP.

I read his autobiography several years ago. Dr. Nathanson spent the rest of his life in reparation for abortion, and to do as much as he could to undo the evil he committed. It's a fabulous book about an incredible conversion, which I heartily recommend.

Like Norma Covey, the “Jane Roe “ of “Roe v. Wade,” Dr. Nathanson was received into the Roman Catholic church. His baptismal sponsor was the Baptist, Charles Colson.

I hope he knew about Congress’ efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, and that Steve King referenced “Silent Scream” during the debate.

Between King and Chris Smith, I could feel the libs squirming! I can't remember the name of the next black woman Rep, but I kept yelling at her on my screen: “Honey, they're killing your race!”

P.S.: I had the news/talk radio on all day, and did not hear one word about his passing. I found out about it from this thread.

Chuck Colson is married to a practicing Roman Catholic and he’s given plenty of evidence he doesn’t understand the depths of the papist error.

I’m not familiar with the author of the following link, but it’s 100% accurate, IMO.

In my opinion, I feel many Christians are much more flippant about the seriousness and the depth of evil. The term for this is “cheap grace.”

Paul was responsible for the persecution and killing of Christians, but his repentance meant spending the rest of his life getting beaten for the gospel.

The theoretical bunker repentance makes a mockery of the concept of repentance, Christianity, and the gravity of his evil.

Christ said no one that “grieves the Holy Spirit” may be forgiven, so it could be that God has already such persons from repenting in such a meaningless form, thus ensuring their doom.

Many theologians believe in a purgatory as well, which I can’t find to be either proven or dis-proven from scripture.

You're very welcome! It is fascinating, isn't it?

I would recommend two books for you to read -- both really address your questions but in different ways. One is fiction, one apologetics. Both are by C.S. Lewis: The Great Divorce and Mere Christianity. I think the former may be my very favorite Lewis book (and I've read them all).

The black woman Rep was Gwen Moore of Wisconsin.

Thanks for the suggestion, my mother is a big C.S. Lewis fan (one of the things I bought her for Christmas was a daily calendar with a quote a day from Lewis on each day, and she loves it). I’ll check those out, I’ve been hearing about them from The Mom long enough, I should read them so I can finally say something back to her other than “Yeah, I KNOW you think I should read them.” Have a good night and thanks again.

It is not justice. It is mercy

I never thought of it that way. Thanks!

May you be at peace today Dr. Nathansan.

Yes, he did some serious harm in his life, and he did some serious good later on. He spent the rest of his life repenting for and making up for the lives that he helped to take. It took alot of courage to take the stand that he did.

Thank you Dr. for being humble enough and strong enough to take up the cause with us to fight for the innocent.

Wonderful question, one that marks the best evidence that God loves us. He will forgive — the hard part is realizing we need forgiveness and then asking for it -— sometimes the *really* hard part is forgiving ourselves.

There’s the parables mentioned above and the fact that Paul was a persecutor of Christians. He helped those who stoned Stephen and prosecuted Christians for years.

Then there’s the story of the workers in the field: Matthew 20 — same pay at the end of the day, no matter how much work you did or how long you worked. He’s the Boss, He can do that.

Matthew 20:9 When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay. 10 20:10 And when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more. But each one also received the standard wage. 20:11 When 11 they received it, they began to complain 12 against the landowner, 20:12 saying, ‘These last fellows worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who bore the hardship and burning heat of the day.’ 20:13 And the landowner 13 replied to one of them, 14 ‘Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn’t you agree with me to work for the standard wage? 15 20:14 Take what is yours and go. I 16 want to give to this last man 17 the same as I gave to you. 20:15 Am I not 18 permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ 19 20:16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”
