ROSEDALE, Md. (WJZ)—An elaborate extortion scheme generating thousands of dollars. Wednesday night, investigators say it was Baltimore City police officers and the owners of a local business who were behind it all.

Kelly McPherson explains how investigators say the operation worked.

In a more than two yearlong investigation, federal authorities claim 17 officers took kickbacks for illegally steering car accident victims to a Rosedale auto body shop.

And there are people on this site that get angry when I post that because of some rogue cops, it makes everyone have less trust in any police officer they meet.

Stories like this. Stories about cops shooting animals for barking or being in their back yard. Cops home invading peoples’ homes and murdering them, only to find they get the address wrong. When cops stopped being peace officers and turned into law enforcement officers, that’s where this mindset shift began.

It all has a cumulative effect on the public. When cops are no longer looking to protect and serve, but looking at everyone equally as potential threats they’re ready to take down, you’re living in a police state. With lots of immunity and covering for (after all you gotta cover for others because you don’t want something happening to you on patrol).

Now you know why I left Baltimore a long time ago.

Used to be you could trust the cops. I knew a bunch of them. Even helped one solve a murder and my sister helped capture a credit card stealing ring and a serial burglar. The cops, back then, did real foot work, and got results and major convictions.

Today, you don’t know who to trust and I can’t believe how many Hispanic names are on that list of suspects? SOmeone said they were Puerto Ricans. Doesn’t speak well for them even if it a small number.

Maybe the new mayor and the police commissioner are really trying to clean up the cesspool known as Baltimore. I wish them well, but it’s not the city I grew up in and was proud of. I visit once in a while but I’ll never go back.

PS: My son’s a federal police officer, and a damned good one. Earned his “streets” in Iraq.

Baltimore is corrupt enough. We thought we could trust the police.

Oh my Lord. Who wrote this? A crackhead? Anyway, if true, they should be fired and prosecuted.

Read the names in the article. Notice a pattern??? (They are foreign hires as part of a city program to... um.. hire a bunch of foreigners to be police... seriously.)

The Baltimore Police Department requires that when police request vehicle towing services, they only use towing companies that are under contract with the city of Baltimore to provide towing services for the Baltimore Police Department.

So...the city is pissed that the cops are getting the kick back instead of them (through their city approved contract).

When I lived there (10 years), it was pronounced:

ball-a-mer

the same people would say:

dow-nee-oh-shun-hon

which was Baltimoron for “down to the ocean, hon”
