CA public employees rally in support of WI counterparts

.....As they sang, "Solidarity forever, for unions make us strong," to the tune of the chorus of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," about 35 tea party activists gathered across the street holding their own signs:

Richard Woods, a retired contractor who lives in Penryn, stood with the smaller group wearing a red visor with "Tea Party Patriots" stitched on the the front.

"I think the unions are right to be running scared," he said. "Middle America is coming after them."

Wisconsin unions have said they'll accept the higher out-of-pocket payouts that together equal an 8 percent cut to take-home pay, but tens of thousands of employees mobilized in the last week to protect their union bargaining rights.

Ironically, an outright win over the unions by Walker would mean less to California government employees than if he and Wisconsin Republicans compromise by taking the money and leaving union bargaining intact.

"If (Walker) triumphs, the same thing won't happen in California. It would be seen as too extreme," said labor historian Daniel J.B. Mitchell of UCLA's Anderson School of Management. "But a compromise … one could see Republicans here saying, 'Well, they did this in Wisconsin,' and it would be taken as a model for California."

Nelson Lichtenstein, director of the Center for the Study of Work, Labor and Democracy at UC Santa Barbara, said that a Wisconsin compromise could have a cascading effect as Brown grasps for solutions to close the state's $26.6 billion deficit. Gov. Jerry Brown has been in talks with six unions still without contracts.

"It would give Brown cover," Lichtenstein said. "He could look at Wisconsin and say (to the unions), 'I can take a little more out of your hide.' "....

TX Schools at odds in racial division - Hearne ISD sues nearby Mumford for "white flight" MUMFORD -- A little more than a decade ago, the tiny school district in this community of cotton fields and drying feed corn was a candidate for extinction: just 80 students, kindergarten through eighth grade, attending class in a 1925 schoolhouse.

Today, it is the envy of Robertson County: three new campuses stocked with computer labs for all students, televisions and VCRs in every classroom, and consistently good scores on state standardized tests.

….Hearne school board members have complained that Mumford is stealing its most academically talented students, hurting Hearne's performance on state tests. More importantly, the district loses approximately $5,500 in state aid for every student that leaves, more if the student can be categorized as one deserving additional state aid such as special education.

In 10 years, Hearne has lost hundreds of students to Mumford, many of them white. In 1993, blacks made up 47 percent of the Hearne student body, whites 28 percent and Hispanics 26 percent. In 2002, just 12 percent of the students in Hearne schools were white, 58 percent were black and 30 percent were Hispanic.

During the same period, the racial makeup of the Mumford school district went from majority Hispanic to majority white.

Hearne's attorney said this is not by accident. Henslee accuses Mumford of actively soliciting transfers.

What's more, Henslee said, the practice violates the federal desegregation order that governs Texas. While the order allows students to transfer from one school district to another as long as the receiving school district can accommodate them, it expressly prohibits transfers that will alter the racial makeup of either school district by more than 1 percent..”

I think people are really coming to the conclusion that Public Employee Unions are nothing more than institutionalized taxpayer spending that goes directly into the DNC Campaign coffers.

Our tax money goes to pay union wages where their forced dues are immediately decremented and a significant part of that lands Directly in the DNC Campaign War Chest to elect Democrats. So Public Employe Union Contracts are simply a legally forced free money machine for the Left Wing Politicians and they LOVE it. Bernie Madof couldn’t have designed any better than the DNC/Unions have it as it is today.

Also, with the Public Employes Union there’s no need r justification to smite the boogie-man evil rich CEO, because the American People are who the ones who pay their wages.

Add into that the fact that their contract deals are so much more lucrative where they also don’t pay for health care or their incredible pensions and you have a Nation-wide revolt against said Public Employee Unions.

Normal people are looking at what they have in the private sector and seeing the ugly disparity of benefits/wages that the Public Employees get and they are angry enough to finally do something to put a stop to it.
