Fox News should fire Glenn Beck; Speaker Boehner should denounce the birthers
By Brent Budowsky - 02/25/11 09:48 AM ET

Fox News should fire Glenn Beck because there are some "opinions" that should not be given prominence on a network that purports to be a serious news station. Beck has the right to express his opinions, but a publicly traded company that presumes to be a credible news network should not be aiding and abetting the spreading of hate using its shareholders' money on the public airwaves.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) should denounce the birthers clearly, unequivocally, immediately and unconditionally and should state, without qualification, that President Obama is a Christian and an American. A leader of one of our two great parties, and the leader of the whole House of Representatives, which is the true role of the Speaker, should not give one ounce of credence to the politics of lies and hate, or leave one inch of doubt that he condemns the politics of lies and hate.

There is weakness in the Democratic Party, for sure, but there is a cancer that is spreading in the Republican Party. The GOP should not allow Glenn Beck to be one of its loudest voices, and should denounce his hate. The Speaker should not treat the purveyors of hate as a valued part of his constituency, or a faction he is too fearful and timid to publicly and clearly condemn.

The president does not say he is a Christian. He is a Christian. The president does not say he is an American. He is an American.

What is happening in American politics is the cheapening of our dialogue and dishonoring of our democracy that combines the worst of the trivial pursuits of what is called cable news with the most extreme voices from talk radio and the Internet, and adding a partisan hunger for power that is extreme and dominates every other consideration in our political and media nation.

Personally, I am fed up with Republicans who preach or tolerate the politics of hate, fed up with Democrats who seem to have no higher values they will champion with conviction, fed up with cable news that treats politics like a forum for hate or a freak show with the latest babble about Sarah Palin and Donald Trump and the idiot nonsense that insider Democrats and Republicans who are out of touch with America tell each other at their insider lunches.

What they all have in common is that they disrespect their audience for their higher purpose of gaining power, making money, peddling the latest insider pittypatter without any serious discussion about the one-fifth of the nation that is jobless, the deadly crisis of the tens of millions who are hungry or the continuing cascade of those who are foreclosed upon and homeless.

I am going to have a lot more to say about cable news and the culture it breeds, and I will not spare Democrats or liberals. There are tens of millions of Americans who do not watch cable news because their voice is not respected, and the battle is only beginning for their hearts, minds and eyeballs.

For now, it is time for Fox News to fire Glenn Beck and time for Speaker Boehner to denounce the birthers, or Fox News will forfeit its right to be treated as a serious news network, and Speaker Boehner will forfeit his stature as a national leader for being too afraid to say publicly what he surely believes in the privacy of his conscience.

Brent toughen up buttercup. Get a real job and begin enjoying life.

Fair advice for Brent. Indeed in criming Glenn Beck, he could be throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Indeed, no man could me more obtuse and downright abusive of anyone raising questions about the eligibility of the now president.

For it was he, Beck, who ranted incoherently at an innocent woman caller who mildly mentioned the electoral college and eligibility in 2008. I know it is presumptuous of me to mention American history to someone like Brent who should be well versed in the past.

The poster boy for virulent and spiteful abuse, as president might well be Andrew Johnson of Tennessee. Johnson was processed into the presidency on the assassination of President Lincoln. All hell broke loose. He offered less harsh terms to the defeated South, Still harsh by any standards. He survived impeachment by one single vote. Edmund Ross of Kansas was nigh threatened and beaten for that dissenting vote.

Yet the Republic survived to become the main world power, superseding Britain. Dinna fash yersel Brent, the Republic will survive. It will sort itself out in a free expression based on the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Please excuse the rant. I have a California wine blended with an Ontario wine on hand. (chuckle).

If Beck is wrong - sue him. If his blatantly wrong and refuses to retract - sue him. If he is lying and smearing people in an unfair way - sue him.

The lack of a law suit says that he must be correct. After all that is the measure most Obots use to determine if something is true or not. If no legal action - it must be true. That is how it goes with an a legally invalidated image of a supposed document.

So if Beck is so wrong, so bad, lying, smearing, defaming...SUE HIM YOU COWARDS! Otherwise - QUIT WHINING and quit trying to get BOEHNER to carry your pathetic water!

After all - it is the mainstream media that has lied over and over and over again.

Just one example is here:

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1729524,00.html

Lets go down the lies and/or mis-leading statements:

1. We know that Stanley Ann Dunham (Obama) was living in Washington State from August of 1961 to Spring of 1962. What did Time say about this critical period. Nothing...

“Then, when Obama was almost 1, his father left for Harvard to get a Ph.D. in economics.
...

When her son was almost 2, Ann returned to college.”

2. Lolo and SAD were married in 1965 when Obama was only 3 years old and likely formally adopted by his new step father. So what did Time say:

“Lolo proposed in 1967.”

So the Hawaiian newspaper birth announcements are unacceptable proof of Obama being born in Hawaii, but African newspaper articles are acceptable proof that he was born in Kenya?

Some days ya’ need a program to keep track of the divergent sects of birtherology.

Neither are acceptable in the court of law as neither are managed by the state of Hawaii or the country of Kenya. Clinging to either for an answer is a waste of time and resources as it is purely speculation. The only benefit to reviewing this information is to use it as evidence in any fraud cases which may arise.

The same applies to digital facimiles of birth certificates, certifications, and licenses. Birth records should be easily obtainable in hard copy form from the state issuing those certifications. It only takes a simple certified packet to be shipped from the state to the requesting court.

Regardless, it matters not if Obama is born in Hawaii or not. The Supreme Court must interpret Article II requirements in the context of qualifications. Otherwise all of this conjecture is simply an academic exercise.

What I find continually fascinating is the vehement "birther" opposition who want to ensure this case never makes it to the Supreme Court. This represents true fear that Obama is truly unqualified along with millions of other dual citizens. It is akin to the senators in Wisconsin who abandon their post instead of provide resolution to a problem diplomatically, regardless of outcome.

My question is: "What are you afraid of? Do you not trust the Supreme Court to make a Constitutional decision?"

"What are you afraid of? Do you not trust the Supreme Court to make a Constitutional decision?"

I have said from the very beginning, this issue has only two paths...Supreme Court judgment or impeachment.

No true conservative would want the Supreme Court undoing a presidential election more than halfway through his term. Especially based on information that was well known before the election. And I for one am grateful the courts have so far refused to participate in undoing elections.

The second is impeachment, and based on the very questionable "evidence", it is highly unlikely that Congress will ever take it seriously. Among all the other malfeasance, there was a credible accusation that Clinton was a rapist, but now Chris Mathews sees him as President of the World...an Elder Statesman.

So...not afraid of anything. I'm just tired of so-called conservatives creating the false hope that something magical will happen to either, end Obama's term, or prevent him from running for a second term. His ideas are bankrupt and are what need to be defeated. And more importantly, can be.

Look who keeps talking about it...leftist journalists, a commie Hawaiian Governor and his unreliable Hollywood reporter buddy, self-appointed corrupt Hawaiian official and document fraud detective Polarik (not to mention relationship advice guru for $2. a minute.) and now Birther King, Internet PowerHouse, Republican presidential nominee hopeful Andy Martin. Ever wonder why the birther movement attracts so many leftists, frauds and charlatans...and yet not a peep from the Heritage Foundation or Landmark Legal?

You do understand that the former articles actually say where Obama was born while the birth announcements do not?? Tell me you understand this.

But really though, take your demands and shove them up your rear end.

Again, do you UNDERSTAND that the birth announcements from 1961 do NOT list a place of birth?? This is a simple question that requires only a yes or no response.
