Does Obama Want $8 Gasoline?
IBD Editorials ^ | February 25, 2011 | Staff

Energy Policy: While we sit on abundant oil and natural gas reserves, prices at both the wellhead and the pump are rising on fears of spreading Mideast turmoil and short domestic supply. But then, maybe that's the plan.

The silver lining for this administration in the gathering storm over the Middle East may be what it's doing and may yet do to energy prices. The average price for gasoline jumped nearly 12 cents a gallon last week to $3.287, according to AAA. But at the White House, that's not necessarily bad news.

Oil has surged to 2 1/2-year highs as the chaos in Libya chokes that nation's exports. Yet among the "full range of options" the Obama administration is considering as the Libyan crisis festers, and the lit match of discontent gets perilously close to Saudi oilfields, ordering the full resumption of domestic oil and gas production is not one of them. Why?

Energy Secretary Steven Chu has said that "any disruption in the Middle East means a partial disruption in the oil we import. It's a world market, and (a disruption can) have real harm on the price." And so, we would think, would the orchestrated and carefully planned disruption of domestic supply by this administration.

Does anyone remember the fake outrage by Pelosi in 2006 when the prize of gas was $2.36 a gallon? Now she is totally silent about it

>>Does Obama Want $8 Gasoline?<<

Actually, in an interview he gave when he was running for president he made it pretty clear that the answer to that question is, yes.

Sure, why not? He doesn’t pay for gas, and his cronies are so rich they don’t care, as are most Senators and Congresspeople. They’re not buying gas cards so church members can get to services.

I hope they all die horribly and slowly.

Yes he does. I believe he is planning to manufacture inflation, and then have his minions turn it down again right before the election.

In a word - yes. Watch for them to change the federal gas tax to a percentage instead of a fixed fee per gallon.

Very high gas prices would benefit the rich; by keeping the riff-raff (me, for instance) off the road, and eliminating congestion.

BTW, gas here in BC is now $5.00/U.S. gallon. We're still driving.

At least $8, maybe more. One of his goals is to kill off the private vehicle. He want to force us to ride buses, trains, and cabs unless we pay some outrageous fee to operate a private vehicle. And I am sure he would require us to buy tickets with some kind of card so he can track where we are going.

We’ll keep driving, too, and eat rice and beans. But higher gas prices make a hugh dent in the profits of small businesses. Back in 2008, my husband persuaded a neighbor (originally from the Dominican Republic) to vote Republican, because the neighbor has a handman business, with several vans and trucks, and gas prices were killing him. Republicans favor more drilling and cheaper gas, Democrats want you to pay more. Who you gonna vote for?

A couple of years ago I looked up the gas tax structure by state, and Illinois and California were already the leaders in gas tax per PRICE (rather than per gallon). Pelosi was loving the high gas prices WHILE she was accosting Bush over them. Gas prices and the stock market crash were major deciding factors in Nov. 2010. When gas prices fell after 2008, I knew they had to be hurting in tax revenue. This is the payoff for taking the hit in gas tax revenue for putting King Hussein of Amerika in power.

If gasoline gets up to $8 a gallon then all gas stations will have a heavily armed presence, either private security or National Guard, there will be fuel truck hijackings and NASCAR will suspend all races.

I’ll deal with high gas prices but when I lose NASCAR its WAR!

“Does Obama Want $8 Gasoline?”

The answer is “yes” - absolutely!!

He has made it clear that the only way to get to the alternate energy production he seeks is to raise the cost of gasoline to $5.00 p/gal or higher.

This not only will reduce driving and increase costs of most all items we buy, but cause a profound change in American culture.

I am amazed at the tripe.

Gasoline prices are merely a part of the deal. Everything is going to inflate. Inflation soves all the government problems.

The real estate price increases will save those under water. Banks will be able to break even on distressed forclosures. The debt will be repaid with seriously devalued $$$. Unions will shout for glee and tout theur winning efforts to raise wages. And onand on

Devaluayion/inflation is the desired salvation

And you can bet with high oil prices, this WILL NOT happen again:

Amid high gasoline prices in 2008, Bush lifted a ban on offshore drilling.[155] Bush said, “This means that the only thing standing between the American people and these vast oil reserves is action from the U.S. Congress.”[155] Bush had said in June 2008, “In the long run, the solution is to reduce demand for oil by promoting alternative energy technologies. My administration has worked with Congress to invest in gas-saving technologies like advanced batteries and hydrogen fuel cells.... In the short run, the American economy will continue to rely largely on oil. And that means we need to increase supply, especially here at home. So my administration has repeatedly called on Congress to expand domestic oil production.

Hey, when gas is $8 a gallon, almost all alternatives are “viable”. Especially bicycles.

But to get serious for a second, a positive side effect would be the explosion of telecommuting. I am fascinated by the I-90 floating bridge at rush hour. Thousands and thousands of cars clogging the road going BOTH WAYS during the morning and evening commute. $8 gas might cull the herd.

One other note. If you fear high gas prices, buy oil stocks.

The amount can be not too great. Buy just enough to grow enough to cover your personal gas price increase.

This applies to food and other such. Stocks will rise and eat up the inflation

Buy gold stocks or funds and just enjoy the ride

You nailed it. I have said from 2006 that the government’s choice is going to be to monetize the debt. Problem is that we don’t owe the money to Ameriacans. We owe it to places like China who will not find the intentional devaluation of their dollars a “friendly” move. Wars are fought over such things.

The price of gas at the pump lags about 5 or 6 months any fluctuations in the oil market. The effect of the current oil prices will hit just as travel demands increase in early Summer. By then, the battle for the nomination will be on and Gov. Palin will benefit as a result of her energy experience and expertise. The folly of Obama’s energy policy will become obvious as more middle eastern countries lose their foreign workers and thus their ability to operate their oil fields. A perfect storm for Gov. Palin’s candidacy.

Just where in the hell are the Republicans on this?
They should be on it 24/7, it's a winning issue when Joe and Jane Jerk American start paying $5.00+ a gallon. It ain't going away and will get worse.
Start drilling now and the problem goes away quicker than most people think.
The only cause of this problem are the Rats, green weenies and OBummer, not the supply of oil and gas which is sitting here available and untouched in the US of A.

If gas hits $5, which is possible, or heaven forbid $8, you’ll see many former Obamabots jump ship.

$5 will do quite a bit of it - at $8 even some of them will ask where his Long Form Birth Certificate is.

Of course, we’re on our way to Zimbabwe inflation either way.
