Hall of Fame center fielder Duke Snider dies at 84

Hall of Fame outfielder Duke Snider has died. He was 84.

The former Brooklyn Dodgers star died early Sunday of what the family called natural causes at the Valle Vista Convalescent Hospital in Escondido, Calif.

The most polarizing issue among kids growing up in New York in the 1950’s in New York City was who was the better center fielder, Duke Snider or Willie Mays.

"Willie Mays' glove is where triples go to die."

In the 50’s Duke was a very good ballplayer. Mays was better and Mantle was the best.

LOL I'll ignore that remark. I grew up a few miles from Ebbets Field and my Dad was a Dodger fan. The Bums came very close to staying in Brooklyn. Which wasn't a bad place in the 50's, even through the 60's. Thanks to the strongarm tactics of Robert Moses, Walter O'Malley was stifled in his efforts to build a new stadium for the Dodgers. Next stop, California.
