This was the least of Teddy's sins. I'd say killing a mistress by driving her into the drink then trying to cover it up was far worse. No surprise that Teddy wanted to meet with left wingers in Latin America. Interesting he got away with all this but a New York Congressman is forced to resign because he sent a shirtless picture to some woman.

No doubt that Teddy was an expert in international “relations”

Well he DID have to spend the night somewhere. And sharing his whores with the local commies probably saved a few burned US flags.

He had to find a home for all that off-the-books cash he'd earned from his best-selling CD (which is STILL a Billboard #2).
Someone really ought to erect a statue on the Mall to Mary Jo for keeping this reprobate out of the White House. She really DID give her life for her country.

Its SO much worse than this document illustrates. The real stories here are an electorate which continued sending him to DC and media who refused to report any of this even tho they knew. In fact in his later years Ted didn’t even bother to hide his antics, coming to press conferences drunk etc. Basically he was an untouchable quantity no matter how badly or criminally he acted.

Are you suggesting that the Congressman shouldn’t have been forced to resign?
By the way - unless I’m mistaken, he resigned, but he wasn’t forced, unless you mean he was “forced” by his own knowledge that it would get a lot uglier for him if he didn’t, as there were other craigslist people that would come forward as well.

The memo suggested other officials had run-ins with Kennedy on the trip. It said that in Mexico, Ambassador Mann -- presumably longtime State Department diplomat Thomas Mann -- pushed back when Kennedy wanted to invite "certain left-wingers" to the embassy residence for interviews. Back when the State Department had dignity...
