Police officer rails against city's anti-bias initiatives- Restorative Justice
Seattle Times ^ | By Lynn Thompson

Posted on 02/28/2011 11:46:09 AM PST by Eva

A Seattle police officer, writing in his union newspaper, disparages the anti-bias training the city employees are required to take, and calls city leaders a "quaint socialist cabal."

Under the headline, "Just Shut Up and Be a Good Little Socialist," Officer Steve Pomper calls the city's 5-year-old Race and Social Justice Initiative an attack on American values and calls its supporters "the enemy."

He expresses contempt for a "Perspectives in Profiling" class that department members were required to take last year to raise awareness about racial profiling, and he questions at what point he and other officers should say "Hell no!" to the city's attempts to "indoctrinate SPD in social justice culture."

Megyn Kelly on Fox News just asked:

Seattle Social Justice?

Did the city of Seattle stop enforcing certain laws because they 'negatively impact minorities'? Are they recommending less jail time for some illegal immigrants so they will not get deported? Seattle police officer Steve Pomper thinks so and he is concerned about how this 'social justice' program is impacting the force and the community.

The article doesn't do justice to the truth of the claim. For instance the Race and social justice initiative that was passed in Seattle states that jobs that require a college degree are racist because more white people go to college, that laws that more often effect minority should not be enforced and charges against illegal aliens should be lessened to avoid have them picked up by ICE and deported .

...that laws that more often effect minority should not be enforced ...

So they're going to stop enforcing laws against murder, rape, armed robbery, drug dealing, etc.?

How do we make sure that anyone in city government reflects the values of not discriminating against people?

What about the values of not discriminating FOR people?

I’ve been to this kind of training a few times. I just ignore them. It’s not hard to do. I also share WHY I am ignoring them with others in the class. I’ve gotten “into it” with teachers and they cannot support what they are teaching. they are just parroting stuff.

There is a great Penn and Teller BS episode on sensitivity training btw. They skewer them pretty good.

Come East, Steve Pomper! And, on the way out, cast off the lines securing the Left Coast to the rest of the republic.

I beg you not to spend the rest of your professional life fighting the leftist loonies and anarchists that have taken over your politics. Find a community that appreciates you and work your heart out for THEM. We can take our nation back.

I have known Officer Steve Pomper for over 10 years. He is an exemplary cop, fair, honest, and an all around good guy.

Pomper is the author of 3 books. Pomper is a patriot and VERY conservative. He’s a survivor, so as the heat builds against him, he will be able to take it all in stride.

"A Seattle police officer, writing in his union newspaper..."

I love how this little tidbit is being ignored here given the other threads this morning regarding Wisconsin cops.

Just goes to show you that sometimes we, as Conservatives, pick and choose what we see.

I’ve ignored nothing. So he writes for his union paper... big fing deal.

Have you read his articles? Have you met and talked with him? Do you know of all the good he has done, not only within his department, but within his community? Do you know anything about the man? Do you have any concept for the amount of heat he is going to have to take over his most recent article?

Your inference is ridiculous.

I can't believe the white people in this country have allowed themselves to be abused and backed into a corner...

Of course whites are historically slow to anger, but when they do, those on the receiving end better run for the tall grass....Fast.

I did not say you specifically, sir.

I said that little fact was ignored by everyone.

Do people know the Wisconsin cops that are being lambasted on this forum? Do they know all the good those cops have done? No. Yet the ruthlesness is unending.

As for what this particular officer is going to have to put up with after this article, he'll be just fine. His fellow cops and immediate bosses are most likely on his side. And he's in a union so any retaliation will be fought. He's too high profile to be messed with in any meaningful way. I would guess he also holds some sort of position within his union.

They said on FOX that they don’t enforce the laws, like traffic stops that disproportionately effect minorities, more than whites or mandatory sentencing guidelines.

Speaking of anarchists, the anarchists held a protest yesterday at the scene of a police shooting in Everett, wearing their black bandannas and wielding knives.

They also set fire to a police substation in Seattle.

I know policing. And I know the hate felt around here for police officers.

If the posters on this thread saw a bio of this particular officer without reading his artilce, they would most likely badmouth him just as harshly as the Wisconsin cops.

He's a career cop who makes $100,000/year, works in Seattle, and strongly supports his union.

My point is that far too often, good cops are thrown under the bus around here by uninformed keyboard warriors.

I'm simply using this thread, a story about a great cop standing up for what is right, to illustrate my point. Once posters get a glimpse of what good people cops can be, the tune changes and praise is heaped upon them. So thanks.

Three books! How ‘bout posting the titles of his books. I think I like this guy.

An interesting part of the interview that Megyn Kelly was doing with someone from the police dept. was about the jobs that require a college education being racist.

The state has been pushing a plan to make 11 and 12th grades optional, putting low performing students directly into training programs and union apprenticeships. These are kids that cannot even pass the GED. I have been trying to make people aware of this, but I couldn’t get any interest on the WA FreeRepublic board. It’s amazing how everything that the left is doing fits together.
