Police keep protesters from entering Capitol

Capitol Police kept more than 1,000 protestors at bay Monday, locking down the statehouse and allowing only a few dozen inside to meet with lawmakers.
Officials with the Department of Administration said they closed the Capitol to help with the cleaning of the building and could not open the doors to the public because some protestors inside the rotunda refused to limit their activities to the ground floor.
The decision seemed to run counter to Capitol tradition and the spirit of the state Constitution, which says officials cannot prohibit individuals from entering the Capitol or its grounds. Those gathered outside were not happy. "My grandfather helped build this building," said LaVorn Dvorak, a retired social worker from Brooklyn, who was stuck outside for two hours in below-freezing temperatures. "I expect to be able to get in. Now they're telling us we can't get in to our own statehouse."
As Dvorak spoke, chants arose including "Let us in - please." And "Whose house?" "Our house!"

They have turned the historic building into a sort of protest village, complete with first aid centers, scheduled events and child care. Capitol Police started on Friday enforcing a new set of rules for the rotunda, most of them aimed at ending the camp out.
On Sunday, Capitol Police attempted to peacefully remove the remaining protesters. An ardent group refused to go and were still inside the building Monday. Most have complied with the new rules, including staying on the ground floor. A few have not, which officials said led to Monday's standoff.

It says the Capitol is supposed to be open from 8:00am to 6:00pm. It’s not supposed to be a 24/7 “protest village” with impromptu day care centers sleeping quarters and protest workshops.
I once walked home two-and-a-half miles in -5 F weather from having three wisdom teeth pulled.
And *I* had to pay the dentist!
For the reported $17/hr these hired goons are getting, they should be more resilient than that!

Uh, when I take the White House tour, I’m going to bring a sleeping bag and camp out for 2 weeks. It’s “the people’s house”, right? And the ACLU will rush to my defense, too I betcha.
I thought they were going to kick them out Friday but some police chief (fire his butt) backed off.

And they're breaking a tradition of following the law. They are doing what would amount to trespassing if you or I refused to leave a building at closing time. Try that at a Federal courthouse, let's say. Or the White House. You'll soon find out it's NOT "your house."
I wish some of these “news” reporters there would ask these protestors if they see a moral equivalency of what they are doing with say the middle eastern protestors.
Ask them how their attempt to take down a legitimately elected Wisconsin State government over the right for Milwaukee teachers to have $100,000+ pay packages compares with say a protestor in Iran who has no rights, no jobs, no freedom of religion, etc. and could likely get killed just for protesting.
I bet they trashed the place, too.
But her granpappy helped build the building, therefore she clearly has a right to squat in the people’s house. LOL. Lunacy on display.
