Holocaust survivors to protest Sen. Nelson’s fundraiser

A group of Holocaust survivors, who once considered themselves friends of U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, will be protesting his Miami Beach fundraiser with President Barack Obama on Friday because they say the Florida Democrat has broken a promise to them.

Their unprecedented protest outside the swank Fontainebleau Hotel will be aimed at Obama, too.

Three years ago, they say, Sen. Nelson promised South Florida survivors in his Washington office that he would file legislation to allow them to sue European insurers that sold their families millions of dollars in life insurance policies before World War II. During the 2008 presidential campaign, they say, Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden gave their word of support, too.

When and if Obama runs for re-election in 2012, the guess here is that he will not get much more than 50% of the Jewish vote.

It's not Jewish votes that matter, as much as the media and money controlled by a narrow cohort.

Good point. In all probability, the number of Jewish votes will be too small to make the ultimate difference, barring an extremely close election.

That’s the ONLY problem they have with Obama and his pet senator?!

“Gee. He promised we could sue some insurance companies in Europe decades after the Statute of Limitations expired, and that European courts who have jurisdiction would respect that ex post facto legislation from the United States, which has no connection to the cases. HE LIEEEED!!!!! (oh, and we’re kind of upset about all the other lies, too, but this is the big one. I wanna confirm some stereotypes and sue people out the wazoo! WAAAAAH!!!)”

Sorry, but this is one too many. Stop it, people.

Jews who understand Judaism (and there are not many of them) vote GOP. Believe me, I am a conservative Jew and there are more of us. We also get it on nutty Moslems and “multiculturalism”.

And on Religion on the Line, we have the obnoxious Rabbi Potasnik defending abortion on demand! He gets it on terrorism but otherwise he is very, very politically correct. Can’t stand him! At least the deacon is pro life.

Thank you for your reply. I am unsure, however, of how it is related to my #15.

Oh, OK. I think I remember reading that he got a bit over 70%, which was particularly surprising given his poor showing among Jewish voters in the primaries.
