TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Supreme Court is awaiting a response from Gov. Rick Scott to a lawsuit challenging his refusal to accept $2.4 billion in federal money for a Tampa-Orlando high speed rail project. The Republican governor has until noon Wednesday to reply to the bipartisan suit. State Sens. Arthenia Joyner, a Democrat, and Thad Altman, a Republican, claim Florida law gives Scott no choice but to accept the stimulus funding. Scott says he won't do it because Florida taxpayers may be stuck with billions in cost overruns and subsidies. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says a revised plan for local management of the project would absolve the state of liability. LaHood has given Scott has until Friday to accept the deal.

Did I fall aslseep and wake up in Cuba? Since when are States forced to accept federal stimulus money? This Soetoro administration just doesn’t understand that this country is broke and its people are demanding that our government stop spending.

I love what Scott Walker and Rick Scott are doing. These guys are standing tall against government spending and not compromising. No compromises. That is what I have been looking for in a conservative for a very long time. Its great to see two guys taking a stand and holding strong!

Altman is hardly a Republican. He’s as Republican as Hizzoner Mayor Bloomberg. He represents the area around Melbourne, which has been overrun by northern transplants, and he’s got skin in the game with Melbourne looking to grow by commercial exploits that would rely on the Tampa-Orlando loop.

That being said, WTF is with our government trying to shove money down our throats? This is VERY disconcerting.

I voted for him also...he says and does the right things so far so I have no grief with my choice. Given the opposition was a lib dem or a clam baked RINO, there was no choice.

Speaking of RINO Crist, he was just voted onto the BOD of St Joe’s Corp, a major land onwer in the Panhandle. Given his go with the wind decision making skills, I guess I will scratch that firm from my list of potential investments.

“Speaking of RINO Crist, he was just voted onto the BOD of St Joe’s Corp, a major land owner in the Panhandle.”

You’ll find a long list of Democratic and RINO politicians on BOD’s. If I recall, Hillary Clinton was on Wal-Mart’s board. The companies are paying protection money. When they get sued by some save-the-whales or protect-the-environment group, the companies have their pet politicians make phone calls and quash the suit. If you look at the company literature, you’ll see these big-name liberals never attend meetings but get paid north of $50,000 per meeting anyway. If that’s not protection money, what is?

You and me both. I must've missed this earlier? W-T-F is going on? This administration is out of control. They won't prosecute the Black Panthers, they won't seal the border from foreign invaders... Yet they will sue Arizona for attempting to implement the existing laws and now they're going after FL for not taking money for an ill-considered project?

obama and his cohorts in crime are dangerously out of control and out of touch. They make Marie Antoinette look like a lady of the people by comparison. The only difference between obama and the other two-bit dictators of the world is they send in their thugs with clubs and guns to enforce their will. obama sends in legions of lawyers via the "Justice" Dept. Not sure which is worse. But seriously, the mentality behind both actions is the same, exactly the same. We have a tin-pot, elitist dictator occupying the WH.

All of the politicians and “community leaders” pushing for the train share several characteristics:

1 - In some way, they expect to personally profit or gain some benefit (or expect to help their friends do so) from the construction and/or operation of the train.

2 - They will never use the train themselves. Or if they did it would be for a political stunt or media photo-op.

How often would you expect to see these two state senators riding the train back and forth between Orlando and Tampa? Never would be the safe bet.

How often would you expect to see the mayors of Tampa and Orlando ride the train other than for a media stunt? Never is still the safe bet.

How often would we see the construction union leaders riding the train unless it was for a photo-op?

This is $2.4 billion to install a train for a 1.5 hour drive.

Does anyone have an estimate on how much this train ticket will cost?

It’s probably going to be expensive since it’s a high speed train.

Can somebody explain the benefits of a 90 mile long, high speed, Tampa to Orlando train?

As a practical matter, the train could not possibly cut much time off the 1.5 hour drive time. Just getting into the station, checking bags, seating, & waiting for the train to leave the station is the time it takes to drive half way there. Add in the arrival time to retrieve bags & arrange transportation is 15-30 more minutes. Now, if there is a threat of terrorism, you can add 1-2 hours in a TSA security line on a busy day.

Did I mention the smelly person seated next to you, the screaming kid behind you, the lost baggage, or the snotty steward?

Who is stupid enough to endure all that crap, when you can jump into your car & be there in the time it takes to play your favorite CD?

If traffic on I-4 is the problem, then for $2.4 billion, FL can build a dandy road parallel to I-4, or double the number of lanes on I-4.

So, tell me, who is gonna ride this thing?

You didn’t mention the time it is going to take for the TSA goon to feel you up.

You know that is coming around the next corner.

Doesn’t Gov. Scott realize billions of federal dollars equals millions of dollars to the politicians, bureaucrats and unions.

Rick Scott's response should be this:

"The rejection of this boondoggle can be explained by quoting B. Hussein Obama:

'I won'."
