Under this resolution, a senator who is absent without leave from two or more session days is subject to a penalty equal to $100 for each day that the senator is absent without leave. In addition, the senator must reimburse the senate for the actual costs incurred to compel his or her attendance. The penalties and costs are imposed by adopting a privileged resolution that identifies the senator who has been absent without leave. A senator who is subject to the penalties and costs imposed by the resolution may only be heard on the matter on the session day on which the resolution is before the senate. If a senator who owes the penalties and costs has not paid the penalties and costs in full within 30 days after the resolution is adopted, the chief clerk will withhold from any payments due to the senator for per diem, travel expenses, or other matters, not including salary, the amount of any unpaid penalties and costs. The senate majority leader may also take certain measures to compel the attendance of any senator who is absent without leave. The resolution also allows the sergeant at arms to request the assistance of any law enforcement officer in this state to find and return any senator who is absent without leave.

this means nothing because they will pay nothing and not suffer one penny of a loss.
They should add another rule: If an entire party is MIA then the rule that it takes one present for a quorum has been met and a vote may take place.
Agree that WI senate should be passing all types of non-fiduciary legislation while the Fleabaggers are enjoying Illinois hospitality. It’s been >2 weeks, what has that senate been doing? As opposed to meaningless per diem fines (which will be paid for by ample union coffers - which are, of course, tithed by us taxpayers!), what WILL get these Rats scurrying back to Madision is the Republican senators passing non-quorum legislation (voted ID, prez candidate eligibility verification, CCW or even open carry, school vouchers, etc). Start that train and the Rats will be back tomorrow!!
It also shouldn’t exclude payroll from settlement of dues or at least say that deliquency of 30 days rendered the legislator in “bad standing” unable to cast a vote.
That's what I was thinking. Two or three cops, the cruiser, over time and all the rest of it, That's going to add up.. if they want it to. A grand a day minimum.

That’s not enough.
It has to be large enough that some union’s slush fund can’t afford to fund it.
I’d prefer $10,000/day, but I’ll settle for $1,000/day.

I agree with you!
I read somewhere that the union is legally prevented from paying their expenses while away and any fines levied, but we all know they’ll get around that somehow.
Personally I think the governor should just declare those seats vacant and appoint people to fill them.
I was thinking more along the order of $5000 dollars per day, plus 5 days of prison time for every day absent. I’d assume to make this work, the senate would have to issue a summons, specifying the penalties at the time of the summons.
It should be an amount at least twice what they earn per day based on a 20-day work month, plus the perdiem. I’m thinking that would be somewhere in the $1,000 range you speak of. It’s a good idea, but $100 isn’t enough. Even $500 would be meaningful.

I agree. It’s really just a gesture. As is typical of pubs, they didn’t put any teeth in it.
The Governor is not quite ready to really play hard ball with the Rats yet. He’s softening the target. They could pass a residency requirement for all elected officials that would make the Rats technically out of state residents and unable to serve.
One of the things I have loved about the Wisconsin Republicans, they have been trying to NOT get stupid and throw down, they have been very careful to make sure they can still talk with their friends when they return. The Dems only have 13 days or so left.....they have to come back. The Dem that saved the Republican at the mob cornering shows these people all know each other, they are neighbors and colleges. The Dems will return, the votes will be counted. Soon.
Sounds good to me...until it costs them more than they think in their mind it pays to continue being the Union Leaderships front...they will hold out...really stupid IMO.
