Hawaii is like our version of the Canadian Maritimes is to Canada, basically a welfare pit.

Sen. Daniel Akaka of Hawaii...

I was taught that we can't say that name...

Another open Democrat Senate seat. This one will be hard to pick up, but on the other hand, no one saw Charles Djou picking up the House seat in Hawaii.

Still, a long shot.

Is there any chance of the GOP flipping this seat?

A fiscal conservative could win here.

That conservative should espouse tax cuts, a business friendly atmosphere to promote job creation, cuts in state regulations that inhibit entrepreneurship and limited government.

Unfortunately, the only reason that Djou won that special electon is because they had 2 dems running in it. That split the dem vote. Between them the 2 dems garnered 57% of the vote.

It’s about time, but this is an outside shot at best. Linda Lingle wasn’t particularly popular when she left office and Duke Aiona lost to a leftist hippie by a larger than expected margin. Maybe one of the Congresswomen will run.

Quitter. He needs to get some time under his belt like Hawaii’s other Senator, who’s been in Washington since 1959.

He was born in 1924, and is the state’s junior senator in every sense of the word.

The Dems will have to spend more money here now.

You are right.

I don’t suppose they would make the mistake again.

The only other way I could think of would be a monumental landslide by Republicans in a Presidential year.

Maybe Duke Aiona will give the Senate seat a shot?

Is this where Shinseki of the berets for every Army trooper gets the nod?

I’m done looting and plundering the place.

Time to give some other thief the chance. :)

There is a way of reporting items like this without FR running into copyright problems.

You can report the essence of the story while attributing the sources.. like a book report or a review
The Boston Globe has reported through an Associated Press article if a by line (name of reporter) name the person
reports that bla bla bla and give a critique of what was reported then if possible link it.

Maybe Obama will run for Senator of hawaii. He won’t have to show a birth certificate to get on the Ballot. Look at the name recognition, a sitting president becomes a senator. He spends enough time in Hawaii, he probably already has residence there too. Neal abercrombie will declare Obama a legal resident, let’s face it he said he was there when Obama was born and he can vouch for obama, but darn it barack I just cannot find that Birth certificate. thats okay Neal, just say I live here year round and the State supreme Court will allow my name on the ballot just like Rahm Emanauel’s. It it only cost the taxpayers of the USA 5 billion dollars. what does hawaii need I can send on over another 5 billion of the unspent 787 billion? get in touch with Ben or Tim either one will take care of it for you.
