The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee invited Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to swing by and have a little chin wag about the budgetary implications of ObamaCare. Representative John Shimkus (R-IL) noticed that the rather large sum of $500 billion was dedicated to both sustaining Medicare and funding ObamaCare. When he asked Sebelius which destiny awaited those five hundred billion clams, she replied, "Both."

Program costs are typically measured in 10 year increments and the previous post got it right.

$600bil - $1,000bil cost.

Article says we're spending 60 billion a year.

Article also says that's less than the 111 billion a year projected to be the cost at the time of its enactment.

Is the article incorrect?

The obama administration is so despicable that I can’t stand watching the news anymore. I’m watching a rerun of ‘Monk’ at the moment. I think these people are trying to destroy our country. They are frauds, and I actually know people who support them.

If this were a corporate CEO, they would be joining Bernie Madoff in prison.

Heck, they'd have been there already long ago. This would just be another sentencing enhancement.

President bush signed the Medicare Act of 2003 on December 8, 2003, bringing prescription drug coverage to America’s seniors during his first term in office.

Benefits did not begin until 2006

In 2005 the estimated cost to taxpayers was $926 billion.
By 2006 it had dropped to $797 billion.
In 2008 the cost had dropped 12% to $44 billion at the end of the fiscal year.

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing how much we would have been forced to pay for amputations due to lack of insulin or open heart surgeries because patients could not afford the heart medications accompanied by long hospital stays. I guarantee you it would have been far more than the prescription drug benefit is costing.

Sebelius.....one of the most detestable, evil beings in this country. There is a special place in hell for her, and the sooner she arrives there, the better off we (and millions of unborns and elderly) will be.

I still have that book on my shelf..

It made a significant impression on me in my youth.

It should be required reading in elementary school.

But that would lead to calls from the children for many of their own teachers to be arrested for treason.

Few on FR want to remember that the Medicare prescription drug bill cost was sold by the GW Bush Admin at around $350 Billion and almost immediately after it passed it jumped to $580 Billion, and $750 Billion a few months later. Memory can be very selective.

I think you'll find few defenders of Bush left here. The man grew government, opened the door to TARP, called Islam a religion of peace, imported nearly a million new Muslim immgrants during his two terms, and funded both Planned Parenthood and the NEA at the highest levels in American history.

Whatever he was, he was not a conservative.

OH! I almost forget, he left the border undefended and wanted to turn American port security over the the UAE.

With all the unrest in the middle east now, that doesn’t sound like it would have been a very good idea, does it. I’m glad that the conservatives here fought it as hard as they did and it failed.
