Saudi Arabia is drafting in up to 10,000 security forces to the north eastern Muslim Shia provinces ahead of mass protests planned next week.

Desperate to avoid mass uprisings against the House of Saud, security forces have deployed in huge numbers across the region.

King Abdullah is also reported to have told neighbouring Bahrain that if they do not put down their own ongoing Shia revolt, his own forces will.

It seems like the entire middle East is on fire.

I wonder what does "drafting in" mean? Do the Saudis hire foreigners to do their security, too?

It will be interesting to see how Iran would react to an action like that.

If Saudi Arabia falls, we’ll be longing for the days of 4 buck/gallon oil.

Iraq is having its own protests!!!
In Iraq, the government of Nouri al-Maliki imposed a vehicle ban to prevent carloads of protesters from descending on Baghdad. Defiant protesters simply stayed overnight at relatives' houses near the main square or made long journeys by foot to participate in what they'd dubbed the "Friday of Integrity."

Determined not to clash with security forces, some Iraqis handed flowers to the riot police. While a minority is calling for the fall of al-Maliki's regime, most Iraqi protesters seemed eager just for an audience to listen to their complaints of rampant graft, unemployment and the lack of electricity and clean water.

"We're not here to fight those security forces, because we know they have orders to follow," said Munir Moussa, 45, who's unemployed. "We're here only to ask for our rights, and we want the entire world to know that."

The prime minister has pledged to address the main demands within 100 days, a timetable now monitored closely on Facebook pages set up by Iraqi college students.

You know, I found this story on Google, but I had to work very hard to find it. At the bottom of the google news page, there is a link to “more stories”. I had to go through 4 or 5 more pages before this came up. I wonder why, it seems fairly important to me.

Things are pretty bad. While we've been absorbed by Wisconsin and Charlie Sheen, things have been going to H*ll in Saudi and Bahrain:

My Mushaima said on Wednesday that protesters have “the right to appeal for help from Iran” if Saudi military units interfere in the struggle. Tanks were seen crossing the 17-mile causeway from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain on Tuesday.

“These were supposed to be Bahrain’s tanks returning from Kuwait: that is not a credible story,” said Firas Abi Ali, a Gulf expert at the risk group Exclusive Analysis.

He said the outcome in Bahrain will set the template for events across the border. “There is no good outcome from this for Saudi Arabia. If Bahrain offers concessions, the Saudi Shia will demand similar concessions. If they crack down, they risk an uprising. These people do not want to live under the House of Saud,” he said.

“Oil could hit $200 if Arab unrest spreads to Saudi Arabia: CEBR”

LOL, try $300 (minimum)...and just under $10 per gallon here. Obama is about to find out that while he can manipulate government statistics (i.e., unemployment and inflation), he CANNOT manipulate the price of oil (although he might try, with price controls...but good luck there).

I hope The House of Saud goes. Maybe Murdoch, Disney and others will buy their shares back from Al Waleed at a big discount. Eff the Saudis. They are the biggest exporters of Islam to the West.

If Americans turn the Obama s**t TV and try to educate themselves, they would know that we are #1 in natural gas. The reserves and sources keep growing every day. OPEC is *****d in a few years if not sooner. Germany, Poland and many other countries have the nat gas too thanks to Texan George Mitchell work on horizontal drilling.

As long as Hussein is there then America is screwed. Come on Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, etc etc. I want to see them all fall.

At this point, it would seem like the best thing is for the West to stand back and see where it all goes.
