NEW YORK (AP) - A decade ago the U.S. government attacked Al-Jazeera as a propagator of anti-American propaganda. Now Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is citing the network for fine news coverageand tweaking the U.S. media in the process.
-snip-
Al-Jazeera has been a leader in changing people's minds and attitudes, Clinton told lawmakers Wednesday.
"Like it or hate it, it is really effective," Clinton said. "In fact, viewership of Al-Jazeera is going up in the United States because it is real news."
"You may not agree with it, but you feel like you're getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news that is not providing information to us, let alone foreigners."

Will Fox News be next on her appreciation list?
Rush played the clip of her rant against US media and talking heads as she called them, the other day. She just raved how wonderful Alie GeeRa was. She must have stock in the company. You know, the Al Quida Stock Exchange run by Bin Laden.
“I find Clinton’s justaposition of Al Jazeera and US cable news utterly appalling.”
Why? Because it’s true? How many “Special alerts” and “Breaking News” and car chases can a person endure in an hour. CNN used to be pretty good, now they send reporters to be the story, not to report

I find myself in the odd position of agreeing with Hillary on this point.
I watched AJ TV during the initial rioting in Egypt. She is right. The show ‘hosts’ over there ask questions of their guests, and (here is the biggest difference between them and us) actually let them give a full answer without interrupting them.
The TREND, though, is that if I want an UNBIASED accounting of an event, I have found that AJTV and PRAVDA are much more reliable than the NYT or the KC STAR.
Now, AJTV was doing the Egyptian riots thing. Whether AJTV and PRAVDA would give the same treatment to events IN the U.S. is another story.
The reason AJ viewership is rising is because the moslem population is rising. But don’t fret, it only took 700 years for Spain to rid itself of the ROP.
Hillary’s right that our cable news sucks, but what in the world is she doing praising al Jazeera? Their coverage of the ME uprisings sounds like it’s good, but my recollection is that they were basically a pipeline of anti-American agitprop during the Iraq war. At some point they’ll lapse back into that, only now they’ll have Hillary’s — the US Secretary of State’s — stamp of approval and the credibility that comes with that.
Your supporting an Iran ian funded propaganda group that assisted in the deaths of thousands of US military people in Iraqi ?
Your sick.
You support them ?
Have you been whacked in the head ?
It's called MSNBC.
What I said was that during the Egyptian Riots, they were a much more reliable and truthful source than any American Media.
Yes, and more than just once.
