MARCH 7, 2011 Democrats to End Union Standoff
By KRIS MAHER And AMY MERRICK
Playing a game of political chicken, Democratic senators who fled Wisconsin to stymie restrictions on public-employee unions said Sunday they planned to come back from exile soon, betting that even though their return will allow the bill to pass, the curbs are so unpopular they'll taint the state's Republican governor and legislators.
The Wisconsin standoff, which drew thousands of demonstrators to occupy the capitol in Madison for days at a time, has come to highlight efforts in other states to address budget problems in part by limiting the powers and benefits accorded public-sector unions.
Sen. Mark Miller said he and his fellow Democrats intend to let the full Senate vote on Gov. Scott Walker's "budget-repair" bill, which includes the proposed limits on public unions' collective-bargaining rights. The bill, which had been blocked because the missing Democrats were needed for the Senate to have enough members present to vote on the bill, is expected to pass the Republican-controlled chamber.
He said he thinks recent polls showing voter discontent with Mr. Walker over limits on bargaining rights have been "disastrous" for the governor and Republicans and give Democrats more leverage to seek changes in a broader two-year budget bill Mr. Walker proposed Tuesday.

>>...betting that even though their return will allow the bill to pass, the curbs are so unpopular they’ll taint the state’s Republican governor and legislators.<<
Blah blah blah. As long as they come back and sign the bill. The other stuff is just saber rattling and hot air.
Oops. Sign = “vote on”.
Already happening in CA. Heard from a friend that students in his daughter's school raised money to save the job of a teacher. Not sure how that works.
Now that all the Union shifty deals are signed and sealed, we’ll come back. :)
The palistinians do this too. The Israelis knock the hell out of them and the survivors hold a "victory celebration."
Efforts need to be made to go after these 14 in recalls. If they pull this again the senate majority leader needs to declare their seats vacant, and have the governor immediately write up writs for special election.
The plan was to give school districts the ability to more than offset the coming state education cuts by getting rid of the collective bargaining agreement, except for the salary negotiation. Local boards can then, if they decide, to adjust the benefits and such so that the funding decrease from the state won’t hurt them if they don’t want to raise taxes or borrow.
They can send out warrants and fine them $100.00, like they have.
Truth be told the GOP senate could expel them from the senate if they wanted to!
They can according to Senate rules.
People better start thinking. These are the people running your state and stealing your money.
Ask yourself, can you afford them? That money is yours and should be in your pocket; not theirs to fritter away.
Is this true? Are these guys coming back?
I’m in Milwaukee and not seeing anything about this on the local news websites tonight. You read the WSJ byline for a March 7th story and wonder if they have scooped the locals?
Or is the WSJ simply taking some comments and making their own conclusion that these legislators will stay out?
I figured these guys would remain out-state for months.
Clanton Gang to end O.K. Coral shoot out.
Any thoughts on this, D?
Will this do?
Plot Uncovered! Dems Fled Wisconsin to Buy Time to Pass New Union Contracts
BUMP!
Good thing that we have local talk show hosts, Vicki McKenna, Mark Belling and Charlie Sykes, who are going to be ALL OVER this. If anyone can expose the union backroom deals, itll be one or all of them.
