Carole Hankin, the superintendent of the Syosset Central School District, earns $506,322 a year more than the President of the United States. Her salary, paid for by taxpayers, is compensation for running a tiny school district comprised of 10 schools and 6,687 students.
Hankins total compensation package makes here the highest paid school superintendent in New York. By comparison, the head of New York Citys school system, with more than one million students, only makes $250,000 a year plus benefits.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to put a cap on extravagant school superintendent salaries. Hes pushing legislation that would cap superintendent pay outside New York City at $179,000.
That move has sparked outrage among union leaders especially in Syosset.

I am definately in the wrong business! Hey kids, ping pong... $50 a ping pong ball -(
and it had to be a small school district
Would be interesting to see some stats on how well the students in her district rank in comparison to state and national averages.
I’ll do it for $200,000.
Thanks for posting. I am finding more and more people are becoming very aware of the outrageous salaries and terrible performance by union teachers and bureaucrats.
I believe that making these wages public, perhaps in a leaflet accompanying the next property tax bills, would solve the problem.
How is that even possible, who in the heck was responsible for this. The story says that the Unions are upset about clamping down of these Superintendent salary's?
Do the Unions actually represent the very people they negotiate with? We know about electing politicians but this would be crazy.
What do you mean, represent the very people we negotiate with? WE don’t get to do any of the negotiating. The unions control both sides of the negotiating table, the tax payers are left under the table. That’s why the states want to end collective bargaining, the state employees are bargaining with their own reflections in the mirror.
This is Grand Theft.
Whole lotta Hankin’ Pankin’ going round. Totally outrageous salary on the backs of the taxpayers. Glad this is being royally exposed. Will they blast the Dem Gov. Cuomo like Scott Walker? Hypocrite Leftists!
Gee, I wonder why all the school districts are always so broke?
What do you suppose her ( the superintendent) pension is going to be?
At least $350,000. per year.
