A million Libyans need aid as UK, France seek no-fly zone

Britain and France said they were seeking U.N. authorization for a no-fly zone over Libya, as Muammar Gaddafi's warplanes counter-attacked against rebels and aid officials said a million people were in need.

Al Jazeera television said rebels had rejected an offer by Gaddafi to hold a meeting of parliament to work out a deal under which he would step down.

With civilians surrounded by forces loyal to Gaddafi in two western towns, Misrata and Zawiyah, fears grew of a rising humanitarian crisis if the fighting continued.

U.N. aid coordinator Valerie Amos said more than a million people fleeing or inside the country needed humanitarian aid.

"Humanitarian organizations need urgent access now," she said. "People are injured and dying and need help immediately."

The U.N. appealed for $160 million to fund an operation over the next three months to get shelter, food and medicines ready.

MILITARY OPTIONS

"We are working closely with partners on a contingency basis on elements of a resolution on a no-fly zone, making clear the need for regional support, a clear trigger for such a resolution and an appropriate legal basis," British Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Monday.

Boo, freaking HOOOO

So for all the TRILLIONS of oil revenue that these oil-rich states have drained from the West/USA over the years, they now suddenly find that they haven't planned or saved anything for ANY emergency and they want the USA to come galloping in to save their OWN cr@p??

Hey let the Saudi's or Dubai send in millions of tons of food, medical supplies and troops to fix their MIDDLE-EAST problems!!
The USA is broke and Obummer is busy wrecking what little else is still functional.

Let the French send in their old jets and try shoot down whatever flies.

Then we will need to rescue all their crews.

These maggots want us to go in for a turkey shoot, then take the credit for it as they condemn our evil.

Israel should do a courtesy training mission and blow the crap out of anything above 100m. Then the world ‘community’ who is satisfied to watch civilians slaughtered by air based platforms can crap their collective diaper and understand what it feels like to have a cherry bomb explode in your face.

And before anyone misconstrues my post as saying we should stick our nose - and soldiers’ lives - in the middle of this, see my tag. However, the reality is that a Muslime Brotherhood takeover of the Middle East WOULDN’T EVEN BE HAPPENING if W was still in office. Let alone anyone close to being truly Reaganesque. Paging Lt Col West. And Palin.

If memory serves me, the USA asked France about borrowing air space to strike Libya some 25 years ago. The answer was, “No!” Our reply over this should be obvious..

The new revelations that he really ordered the Lockerbie made Ghadaffi radioactive. Everyone knew but ‘forgot’ it over the years...

No more blood for these people

UK PM Cameron proposed a no-fly zone. Sec. Gates said no. We have UK and France wanting a no-fly zone again. Now we're hearing maybe NATO will do it or maybe we'll ask the UN. Obama dithers. The longer he works on his golf game, rather than take decisive action, the more he undermines America's leadership position.

No one is asking us to do nation building or put boots on the ground in Libya. The rebels have said they can handle the ground war but are sitting ducks for aircraft. The longer the West does nothing when called upon to help, the greater risk there is of genocide by Gadhafi's forces.

Africa is a continent of mass life, and mass death... And that natural resource thing. Europe is to feeble to exploit anything, other than their graying panties. America is likewise graying, corrupt, and just as racist to give a crap. We will be busy working out the Mexicans take over of the south west and our ability to tax them at appropriate level to maintain our standards; without fomenting revolt... Then somehow transfer that filtered through DC revenue to aging white boomers who will receive twice the annual income every month their immigrant servant makes annually. Then bitch at them because they screwed up their cheeseburger...

They will be speaking Mandarin and Farsi in various divisions of the African continent within a decade. The rest will be cooking your big mack, and getting $hit because they forgot your senior discount.

Sorry, this isn't about our leadership position (the fact that we've been reluctant to do anything, so nothing has in fact happened settles the score on that one); it's simply not our fight. We have no vital interests in Libya. If Europe wants to secure it's oil supply there, than they can do it themselves and we'll provide AWAC support or other inexpensive, non-combat roles to fulfill our treaty obligations like they do; let the Germans fight this one. NATO is a euphemism for the U.S., with some British back-up and French applause. It's a backdoor way of getting the U.S. to do it and everyone knows it. We haven't been "called upon to help" either, in fact most of the rebels on the street are telling us not to get involved, and in any event, there's no organized leadership to deal with anyway. If we did help them, they would just as likely end up hating us and we'll be held responsible for the Islamist government that follows. If they want to slaughter their own people, it surely wouldn't be the first time the world watched, i.e, Darfur, Rwanda, Congo, etc. Maybe the African union should take the lead, or the EU, or gee, how about the Arab world. No more for us.

Hope that the Fwenchies with the Cameroons do try to impose their mighty will on their very own ‘freedom’ march. This is a guaranteed lesson in waiting for these cowards. Hopefully DA Obama manages to keep wimping and the vaulted EUSSR can flex their mighty muscles instead of their fat mouths. Where the heck are the Blue Helmeted Saviors of the World????

“Where’s the United States?” Doesn’t that get old? Time out, World. The United States taxpayer is very, very tired of funding all this insanity throughout the world. Very tired. Maybe if these variously aggrieved people would kiss the ass of the United States (in advance) and give the United States some of their natural resources...maybe then.

Italy has been quiet ?
Are the pipelines under the Mediterranean still flowing?
If the Europeans shipped from Italy today they would be there tomorrow.
Why they would welcomed as great friends with parades and festivities!

Any aircraft destroyed will have been on a medical mission from/to a wedding that was bombed by the United States.
